Watching Bayern Munich and Klinsmann's USA, The big strong lads are at the back and through the middle. The nippy, tricky, non-stop workhorses parade the flanks with a licence to cut inside and help out or cause trouble.

Think this guy looks like an interesting Martinez type striker. Quick with excellent touch and technique and clearly knows where the goal is. Not designed for hoofs up the pitch but hopefully we won't be seeing too many this season.

What's worrying, however, is that we've heard nothing more about Baines being offered a new deal.

when I booted up the laptop the other morning and checked the usual footie web sites something about Baines being offered a new 5 year deal came up but before I could click on it the screen had gone ;0(

this one could have legs. Especially if the Jelavic to Hamburg rumours are true. Whilst I would also like to see Jelavic in a Martinez setup, I have a nagging feeling his technique is not good enough to do so. So if we sell him, this is the kind of replacement i'd like to see to mitigate the selling of Jela. Young, hungry, good technique, German mentality (close enough), 4m pounds . . . sounds like a Martinez 'gem' to me :)

Stuart #824. . Transfers are a little more complicated than the Manager saying "Yes" or "No." Stuart,you only have to follow the coverage of the Fabregas and Suarez situations to get a flavour.
Bottom line is (and I'm not talking about Baines) you can't keep an unhappy/unsetttled player. The Manager can persuade players,that's true,and a Chairman can say no but I think you're being a little naive Stuart.

Got to admire RM he went home to Spain during the hols and snaffled Del boy from Barca had a game in Austria and he's after this kid, fully expect an american from the USA tour now .... bit worried about what he's gonna get from Acccrington though.

Was this the guy who gave Duffy such a harassing time in Vienna? I suspect Jelavic is toast and we`ll certainly need a replacement.
Personally,I have no hope of retaining Baines and I think Moyes will be back for him as soon as United return from their travels.

As I said, I don't think Baines is the sort to create a fuss so to compare him with Hannibal Suarez is a bit unfair.

Not being naive at all, Baines has said he is looking forward to working with RM so there is nothing to suggest he is unsettled.

Well we both agree then Stuart. . I thought you were insinuating,that any given Manager can say no to transfers that he doesn't fancy. Martinez said (just yesterday - in so many words) that modern Managers are in no position to rip-up Contracts/Clauses, Agents will always be grafting,and Clubs will have budgets.
Baines has not said publicly that he wants to go,but we both know there are so many other factors.
For my money though,I think he'll stay.

All the talk of Moyes coming in for players when he gets back from Australia - can I just point something out to people. When managers are after players, they don't have much at all to do with the transfers finer points, and nothing to do with the financial wrangling - that's what the club's Exectutives are for.

Case in point, the Fabregas deal which is being dealt with by Ed Woodward, who is the vice-Chairman of Man Utd.

David Moyes could be on the moon for all it matters when it comes to transfer dealings. Manager's outline who they're after, and the money-men do the deals.

Richard - No it wasn't Hosiner, it was Otojie. My Austria Vienna supporting friend reckons that Hosiner is good - but the level in Austria is not too high. Another Austrian striker, Maierhofer, failed at Wolves.

Don't know much about this lad Hosiner, but he has a outstanding goal scoring record in a poor league. Might be worth a risk if his technical ability is as good as some people are making out. £5 million would be a bargain if he turns out to be the next Michu

Austria Vienna star Phillip Hosiner has his heart set on a move to German outfit Hoffenheim.

The two clubs are currently locked in discussions over the 24-year-old's valuation, but Hosiner insists that he is not considering offers from elsewhere.

"No player or manager from a club in Austria can turn down a serious approach from a club from Germany. That is a fact," he told Osterreich.

"Hoffenheim 1899 has been very busy convincing me and I really had a great feeling right from the start.

"I want to join the club, another club is not an issue for me at this point in time."

If he would choose Hoffenheim over Everton, then he isn't ambitious enough for us.

David (057) Bundesliga is a very good league and his ambitions may lie ahead of Hoffenheim long term. Just cos he may not want to play for us doesn't show he isn't ambitious.

Agree with the sentiment, we have to buy players who want to be here and who will hopefully achieve their ambitions with us. Sounds like ths guy has a plan and as Martinez said in his interview nothing doing.

We do need another striker, 2 if Jelavic goes.

He is 25, although still young, I don't believe young enough to spend a few seasons at a club as a springboard to something better in the bundesliga...i could be wrong!
Everton are a bigger club than Hoffenheim, they are not one of Germanys powerhouses. They play to smaller crowds & finished 16th in the bundesliga last year. It is like a player choosing Norwich over Everton. So in my opinion it does lack ambition, if this story is true of course.
I agree we do need another striker, not just a squad filler either.

According to today's free paper, he was being watched yesterday by 3 German clubs - Hoffenheim, Stuttgart and Bremen. No mention of Everton.
