Dempsey flies in for 'Everton talks'

Update Escalating rumours abound that Tottenham are on the brink of selling attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey, with Everton his believed destination.

The USA international was spotted at San Francisco international airport yesterday, believed initially to be bound for Seattle but, following a Tweet by ESPN pundit Taylor Twellman, speculation suggested he might be heading for Los Angeles to hold talks with Everton officials who are in town for the International Champions Cup.

Twellman posted his prediction that prediction that Dempsey is "in the USA to meet with one of European teams competing in international tournament. #Everton"

It is believed, however, that the 30-year-old Texan, who saw a deadline-day move to Liverpool collapse a year ago before eventually leaving Fulham for White Hart Lane for £6m, did indeed fly to Seattle after all, possibly to hold talks with MLS side, Seattle Sounders.

I happen to think he would be a decent signing (depending on the fee)
Would have preferred Fer or Capoue but were not getting them by the looks of it and Dempsey is a bit more attacking so maybe he will be more beneficial to us if we manage to keep hold of Fellaini

He's a victim of Tottenham's scatter-gun approach to transfers, based largely on the film 'Brewster's Millions' and the "buy him because someone else wants him" transfer policy theory. If Liverpool disappeared tomorrow, I'd spend far more time on hating them.

We couldn't afford him, could we?

Maybe there is something to this Jorginho rumour... Maybe not.... He is a decent player.... But would rather see Barkley given a run, we have options...

With all the shenanigans going on over there perhaps there should be more speculation about Baines going elsewhere than Manure. I presume that he had an ulterior motive for bringing his guitar to the USA (see photo of him arriving at LAX). Rumour has it that Axl Rose has recruited him to join a reformed Guns n Roses. A spokesman for the band was quoted as saying, "Baines's mean left handed guitar playing will blow the memories of Slash off the the stage. His contribution to the rhythm of the team as he regularly moves forward from the left of stage will ensure that GnR will be a major player on the European scene in the coming years".

I never used to mind Spurs but since the Naughton gazzumping my hatred towards them has spiralled almost out of control.

That slimeball Levy has some balls wanting £100+ for Bale. I hope Real tell him where to go and Bale suffers a massive dip in form forcing Levy to wish he had bitten their hand off at £80m

Yeah David that would be a class outcome. People often say they'd rather have Levy than Kenwright, but Levy just seems like a robot - and I bet his staff are shit scared of him. My distain for old Bill has waned to be fair, I actually think he has the club's best interests at heart (a whole other thread there, sorry!).

I have heard this is nothing to do with us and that he is looking to sign for a US team, just a coincidence that we are over there right now. Seems more likely to me, would he really fly out to meet us?

Don't worry we won't be signing Dempsey or Makepiece for that matter! SSN confirmed before, that his reason for his Trans-Atlantic flight was to negotiate with the Seattle Sounders about a possible move!
It's amazing how these stories start off, and like Chinese Whispers, resemble nothing like the truth by the time it's been passed round!

Our squad is getting to big. We're better with a squad of 9 and call on the cleaners when needed. That was always the case with DM he never new his best 11 when he had to much choice.

ESPN now reporting that he will sign with MLS's Seattle Sounders. $9 million transfer and four-year $32 million salary (all American dollars and MLS records). I am shocked by this move, but I think it is good for the MLS and will prolong his career, which was already starting to slow a bit at the Premier League level

I like Dempsey. Certainly knows where the goal is. Can't see it happening as Spurs will probably demand £60m (including discount as he's 30)

Don't understand the skepticism about Dempsey here. I think he's an outstanding player and a fierce competitor on top of it, the Everton ideal. I would have loved to see him in blue.

However, the US media are pretty much unanimous in reporting that he's going to Seattle.
