Blues fail in Marrone bid

Reports in Italy suggest that Everton were unsuccessful in acquiring midfielder Luca Marrone on loan from Juventus this week, with the Italian giants now insistent on a permanent deal for the 23 year-old.

Described as a "tough-tackling midfielder", Marrone has been with the Old Lady since the age of six but, after breaking into Juve's senior squad four years ago, he has failed to hold down a regular starting spot.

Glad to see RM still looking to strengthen the midfield if this is to be believed.
Much as I love him and have prayed that Felli stays, I think he's not so suited to RMs plans as I assumed. I think we should sell him now for a mint to anyone but Manure (coz fuck them) and let Martinez buy a tailor-made replacement. Someone more suited to the hole in a 3. Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy if he stays, but I think we will benefit either way where as before seeing the Juve game I thought we would just be the poorer for his leaving

Wasn't this the guy Anichbe dispossessed to start h move for our goal? He also got caught a few other times, not that impressive and might struggle with the pace of the EPL. Certainly not worth the money quoted.

Carl, why is a loan deal so bad for a player who we have no idea will be a good fit into our club or our league?

We loaned Pienaar and Arteta(who were good and turned into buys), and Drenthe and Straq who were shit and went home without us having forked out vast fees.

I'd be happier for us to pursue this route for players like Marrone, rather than a straight transfer

Totally agree with you on that one, a loan deal if set up properly can be beneficial to both parties! Like you so aptly infer,if the player has been hyped up and turns out to be a damp squib or a wilting lettuce, no real harm has been done apart from a drain on the wage bill for whatever the duration! Whereas if signed up, and turns out as mentioned your in Dung Drive or Shit Street! I can remember a few, cue Per Koldrup!

Winston, I was one of Drenthe's biggest fans to be honest; he obviously had the talent, but it seems not the temperament. I wished Moyes had played him more when he was here, but by time he left you could hardly call his loan a success.

Had we forked out £5M or £10M for a player who was concentrating more on his off field activities than playing for the club then I think we'd have felt shafted.

I agree completely Wayne. We had a narrow escape with Drenthe.

I rated him at first, but he wasn't a fit for us in regard to the close team spirit we enjoy. Too much of a renegade.

He'd have fitted in with the Darkside perfectly...probably would have been made captain....

I watched Marrone Wednesday night. Totally unimpressed, one of the weakest players on the pitch for Juve. No thanks.
