Is a Landon Donovan return on the cards for Everton?

I would be very surprised,considering his age and the fact we have a new manager,who has no connections with the player! I thought he was really effective the first time he came on loan,not so impressive in his second spell though!

I don't know about a loan-in, but I wouldn't be surprised if he asks Roberto if he can train with the Club when the MLS season ends. Klinnsman's made it clear to American MLS players in for the National Team that they can't just be on vacation for 8-12 weeks after the MLS season.

He would make a nice squad player, though.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat. He's a quality player and we need a bigger squad. He can play left or right or just off the striker.

By the way Derek he was better in his second spell so I really don't know what you are talking about. He turned the season around and led Everton for goal assists by a large margin in the two months he spent here.

I would too for different reasons. I was at Dodger Stadium and I loved the fact that all the Galaxy fans by me were shouting for Everton. It's fucking great to see yanks supporting the blues! I have been here for 25 yrs and on Saturday we did not disappoint.

Them Real Madrid are the Number One reason why there should be a salary cap in football... but that would not do. I hope they go bankrupt, the prima donna Spanish gits. Oh by the way, Landon will probably not come back; it's just wishful thinking.

He is a very good player and his recent performances for the USA have been eye-catching, he is also a natural leader and that is something that we lack at the moment. Depending on the length of contract and the transfer fee I think he would be a good addition to the squad.

Always have a soft spot for this lad.

When we were at our robotic worst he brought light to those grim days, his pace, technique and whole "can do" attitude plus his genuine love of the club transformed each season he was here.

Have him back in a heartbeat - can't have too many proper footballers.

I agree with Derek, I think he had a lot more assists in his second spell but his performances were of a far lower standard. If we can get him on a free then i'm all for it but if we have to pay a fee then it's not worth it.

Can't see it happening but v good player, tremendous attitude, think he genuinely fought to prove his worth whilst with us and loved the support we gave him to do it.

I'd have him back simply for the extra he'd bring to the dressing room and training, but doubt that would be enough for him. Would love to have him as cover / on the bench.

Fits in with the NBC Stateside coverage referred to in another thread. With Donovan and Howard, we would be a good team to follow.

Good player but for me we are well stocked on the flanks. Could use one or two more central players to cover Fellaini and Gibbo.

I would definitely take Donovan for a low fee. He seems to fit in with the team's character and has always contributed when he's played here, but he may not want to be on the bench too much in a World Cup year...

If the price is right and we get a bit more merchandise income/exposure in the US, then why not. HIs experience and attitude would be a boost and he doesn't need to be in the starting XI every time.

He's 31 I believe so should still have a good season or two left in him.

Far better option than Naismith in the right and can put Mirallas in the middle behind the striker, or even he plays that role which much better than Pienaar, barkley , osman imho

Was great for Everton a couple of times but not what we need now. Defensive midfield is our weak spot and should be attended to first.

Danny Jones, you're right: not what we need now but if we were to sign Donavan he would definitely boost our profile even more Stateside. We could do with more exposure. I don't think we can break into the Asian market as the Mancs and the Shite have it sewn up with City and Chelsea mopping up the scraps. Lets face it, David Beckham wasn't what Real Madrid needed when they signed him but he paid for himself in months.

Denis hit the nail on the head! With the exposure in the United States - this would be a very good move for commercial reasons, aside from the fact that he was great for us in two spells and seems to be playing even better right now than ever before.

Doesn't Donovan's deal run out in Jan 2014, or did he sign a new deal with the MLS? 31 or 32... the lad is fit and is still reasonably quick and would add something to our squad, no doubt about it!. I'd have him back at Everton permanently for a couple of years, he would certainly give us options still in the attacking third.

In a heartbeat; quality player looked good in both spells, and on the back of the prem deal with NBC in the states, have a massive publicity campaign to raise the profile of the club, and shift some merchandise......oh on second thoughts, it's Everton we're talking about.

Good in moments for us but had his time.

When money is as tight as ours we have to be careful who we sign and how long we commit our money.

He's 31 years old, every player we have been linked with recently has been over 30, we need to reduce the age of the squad.

I think it would be great to have him, but I'm not sure where he'd get minutes ... we already have Mirallas, Pienaar and Deulefeu for the flanks, and in the 3-at-the-back alignment, Baines and Coleman are pushed up the wings as well.

He might be an alternative for the middle, however, where he so often slides in for the US and LA... he's better than Ossie, and I continue to believe that Barkley isn't ready to run an EPL attack.

I thought he was an excellent player for us and he really suprised me how good he was, but I think this ship has sailed. If he was going to join us permanently, it should've been a few years ago. I would be very surprised to see him in an Everton shirt again... although a brief loan for cover in January wouldn't be bad.

I've been waiting for this one; I would like to have a player of such quality back at Everton. He could do well in the new formation Martinez is playing. He is a pacey and skillful player that has been a good player for Everton in the past

He played just behind the main striker in the recent CONCACAF tournament and scored 5 goals with several assists added on. His pace was electrifying. As with Howard, he would help lift our profile in the USA.

Going back to Howard. I hope he has a great season because it's hard to see him ever being dropped. BK calls him "Our pin-up boy" and worships the ground he walks on. A massive draw in the States, like him or not, he is our number one forever.

Yes, like Sam and others I'd prefer a midfield tiger with plenty of pace. The way we're playing at the moment, he'll have to track back like Usain Bolt but, hopefully, by the time the season kicks off, Jags will realise that a high line is not the halfway line. He did it last year against United and now he's doing it again.

He's a proven goal provider with a great attitude to playing for Everton. No brainer IMO if the price/deal is right.

The additional USA exposure at a time when NBC are pushing the "EPL" is a bonus.

His contract with MLS ends after the season ends in November, so it would be a free transfer.
