Past Martinez interest in Piatti underpins latest link

The apparent confirmation from his agent of interest from the Premier League has led to speculation that Everton are in the hunt for Valencia's Pablo Piatti whom Robert Martinez has apparently tried to sign before.

The 24 year-old is reportedly surplus to manager Miroslav Djukic's plans and Los Ches are believed to be eager to get him off their wage bill. Despite apparent interest from Rennes, Fiorentina, Metalist Kharkiv, Olympiakos and Celtic, Piatti is still at the Mestalla, with The Express suggesting he is angling for a move to another club.

With Everton supposedly interested in him three years ago and Martinez reputed to have tried to sign him for Wigan Athletic, it's the Blues who are being touted as the mystery English club vying for Piatti's signature.

A £1.75m move to Rennes fell through when the player failed to agree personal terms.

Getting him for £1.75 mil would be another Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar (1st time) type steal. Great little player. Hope this is true.

I have been reading about this player, he tends to play either left or right wing, or supporting forward play. He is apparently only 5ft-4in so not the biggest... although look how good Gianfranco Zola was at roughly the same height.

As Neil has mentioned, I would have thought an Ever Banega type player is more what we need, or indeed Ever himself. We most definitely need another centre-mid before the window closes, even if the only resort is Gareth Barry (provided wages could be subsidised by Man City), he would be better than no-one at all!

The price is perfect and if his wages are as reported £20k a week then also not going to break the bank, tricky part is getting him to leave Spain, he's already knocked back a move to France

Agree with Dan, under £2m for this lad would be a steal.

If Martinez is only looking for one more player though, then I would be surprised if that player was a winger.

He was a no.10 last time I saw him. Just behind the striker. Not seen him play on the wing. Very lightweight but he can play. In the Coutinho/Oscar mould.

Moved to Valencia the summer before last I think with a reputation and potential. Didn't really get a run with them though. Guillem Balague mentioned that he would leave the other night but no mention of any clubs. He's another attacking midfielder. Do we need one?

And Kevin the Italian press have been reporting for days that Honda is trying his damnedest to get out of his contract so he can go to the San Siro now but if not he is prepared to wait until January

We always need cover for the wings and attacking midfield so this would be a good move. Barkley could always be moved back alongside Gibson freeing up that number 10 role.

I can't claim to know anything about this lad, but for £2 million he sounds like a steel from what iv'e read. Pienaar isn't getting any younger, Deulofeu is only on loan for the season, so this lad could be a very useful addition. He's still young and will add strength, depth and competition for places.

Hope this one is true, but sadly, probably just paper talk
