Barry is not going to have to take a wage cut to go on loan, MCFC are contrcted to pay him what was agreed and if they don't need him then they will happily accept another team contributing to his wage.
I'm sure Barry would sooner play than sit on the bench, particularly as he still has the chance of a world cup at the end of the season.

I would tend to agree with you there, but I was reading an article before (can't recall which site) saying he would be prepared to take a pay cut, in order to get some game time in with the World Cup looming.

I don't know where he stands in the England squad, whether he is assured or not, or whether they think he'll be too old by the time it comes round. Probably just another piece of journalistic phishing. I think if we could get a deal (subsidised wages) it would be alright for a year.

I know he's not the quickest, but his other attributes and experience in the centre is where we need it. Ultimately would prefer (in an ideal world) to buy a younger player to do the same job (Bradley, Marrone, Chantome or the likes) but there's probably little chance of that.

Still, we can always live in hope mate, after all, we as Evertonians, have been doing it for years!

Barry will not earn less on loan to Everton! If Everton offer more to MCFC per week than any other club he is prepared to play for then Gareth Barry will be playing for us next week.

Signing Barry on a loan deal is not comparable to permanently employing a walking shampoo model like Ginola. This is not desperation, it's a good deal. We are talking about an England midfielder on the brink of the World Cup, Get him in!

We have Gibbo, great when he's in the team, but immeasurably less so in the stands wearing a bandage on his knee.

Whilst would I infinitely prefer us to sign some blazin' young midfield dynamo, I would rather accept someone rather than no-one in place of Gibbo's bandaged knee.

Some people really need to get a grip on reality - all ive read on here recently is doom and gloom! No one ever seems happy with anything! - take the young barca lad for example, people are moaning that we might be able to extend the loan by an extra year, to me thats an excellent piece of work from the management team - a young lad who is potenially one of the brightest young talents in europe from one of the best teams in the world and barca could end up paying all his wages - and people have issues with that???? Having a link with a team like barca is great and surely is a compliment to our club and manager.

Whilst id like to see us sign all these players people keep mentioning it's not going to happen unless we sell - were skint its as simple as that. Also who knows whats gone on behind the scenes? Who's to say these players would want to come here???

Then people say we should play our youngsters - Martinez is - to me it looks like the ones who are ready and can handle it are going to be given a chance - barkley 2 games into the season and he's started them both - how many did he start last season in his proper position? stones got a run out in the cup - if the others were ready im sure they would be getting a chance to.

I trust in what Martinez is doing and im sure he is doing the best he can with what funds he has available - this season is going to be one of transition - as others have stated Martinez needs time to see what players we have, how good they are and if they can fit into his new system. He has brought 4 new players in - 3 he knows well and will know they can do a job and pad out our numbers - the other a bright young talent, who as I said earlier could possibly cost us no wages! I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it just seems that every player that is "linked" (i quote that as for all we know its just paper talk) people moan about as its not who they would have signed on champ manager - can we just maybe cheer the mood up on toffeeweb a bit??? :)

Matt, I think most Evertonians are genetically miserable sods to start with. We know our history but we've been in the wilderness for almost 30 years now and feel our future has been stolen from us.
A lot of people on here are too young to remember when we rubbed shoulders with the elite teams and didn't have to scrimp and save to buy players. When each season brought promise of a trophy and we looked forward to the transfer season not in dread.
Despite all of this I am always, in the main, optimistic and I DO trust in Martinez and I DO believe he will be a success. As for Barry, if they pay 80% of his wages he'd be a decent addition.

Colin when you say we had our future stolen from us I assume you mean on the night of 29 May 1985 when an awful lot of people not just football clubs had their futures stolen?

I'm not a big fan of Barry, even less so since the sight of him hopelessly chugging after Muller in the last World Cup. However I'd sooner have him in than nobody and would prefer him on a cheap loan deal rather than pay massively over the odds for McCarthy.

However what makes me feel negative about this deal is that I think it is being lined up as a possible cheap replacement for Fellaini, rather than it adding to our midfield choices.

Matt an England international is the positive? The last and only time England won anything Barry wasn't even born. If you want a bit of sad reality, Carlton Palmer also played for England didn't stop him being shite either, Osman has a few token England caps, is he now Messi? I just think for the fees involved which won't be cheap we should be looking at younger, cheaper and with some potential longer term. Have no problem with Delboy as he comes from a class academy and has potential, most likely we will not extend or retain him but he will offer more than a player in the twilight of their career looking for another payday.

Mat, Man City want shut its not that often than a loaning out team pay the full whack of a players wages hence he's on offer to other teams, Man City can afford him to sit on their bench but want shut as he's past it for their needs. The Martinez style of football needs pace not just the ability to create pretty triangles; they are bleeding useless if they go nowhere including past an opposition player.

We need a 'striker' and a midfielder. Right now, i'd take anyone to fill the role of Osman. How on earth he continues to be in the team despite some shocking performances eludes me. There has to be better than osman in the team to permanently replace him.

Why is Osman in the team? Because there is, quite literally, no-one else in the squad in midfield! It's dreadfully, woefully simple. I'd take Gareth Barry right now because anyone who comes in and pushes the utterly fucking embarrassing Osman out is a hero in my book.
