The return of Landon? McGeady linked again!

I'd love to see Landon back. Good for the club and good for getting our name out there more to American soccer fans. As for McGeady, a lot of folks on here seem to really dislike him, but I trust Roberto's judgement. He made an excellent decision with McCarthy.

As an American Everton fan, I love the idea of Landon coming back on loan. But I am sick of this two-month loan crap. I hope that we can have some flexibility in the agreement where we can extend these loans if we're in contention for Europe and or making a nice FA Cup run. Frankly, I'd prefer to have someone who will be able to be here until the end of the season.

If we do sign McGeady, we might as well go the full Monty and sign the whole Republic of Ireland squad.

I have mixed feelings on Donovan. As a USA fan I'd be delighted to see him maintain his conditioning in the EPL to help him be at his peak for Brazil. On the other hand, I haven't seen the "renaissance of form" referred to above... in fact, what I think he showed with LA this year is that he's lost a step, which isn't a surprise at 31.

Yes, he could help us, but any minutes he gets will likely be minutes taken away from Deulofeu -- since right wing is Donovan's primarly position at this point -- or perhaps Barkley. I'm not sure I want to see that happen.

Really? is that the best an aspiring top 4 side can do? As good as Landon was for us, adding him to the side in January plus McGeady ( he is playing in Russia) is not reaching for the stars. We have the bullets in Lukaku, Mirallas, Dellboy, misfiring currently, we need another trigger man to teach Barkley how to take aim and squeeze that pass through the defence.

Thats where we turn the ball over Ossie, Ross and Pienaar, out of those three, only one is on the upslide in career longevity. If we want to keep Lukaku and go to Europe, they are the positions we need to strengthen.

Not sure either of these are too inspiring. Landon was useful in his time but would not want too many loan players and would rather see Deulofeu get more game time. Mcgeady has always looked like he lacks end product to me though maybe could be a squad filler if the price is right.

I'd be happy to see Landon back for a third and final time, although it's such a shame we couldn't make it permanent the first time.

A real winner with pace and skill he'd be good cover on the flanks or striking option through the middle to give us a little extra impetus. That said I do agree that I wouldn't want to see this at the expense of Delboy. We do need cover up front but shelling out a little on a young striking prospect as well/instead would seem the smarter move.

Donovan talk again? Can't we let this one go? He wasn't even that good the second spell he was here and is in his 30s now, plus the fact that it was Moyes who brought him in. Has Martinez ever mentioned him?

Bit like the Cahill rumours this, both players would be great to have round the club and would be good for the last 20 minutes, if needed... but agreed, not at the expense of Delboy.

Donovan's contract finishes within a matter of weeks so suggesting a loan seems to me a rehash of the same story we get pretty much every year at this time with Landon.

That said he still has a lot to offer and if we want to compete we need to be able to rotate players who can have an instant impact on the team and he'll certainly do that. I don't hold with the view that having more good players is a bad thing as it reduces chances for others, it increases competition which can only be a good thing.

I think because Donovan got less goals in his second spell he is seen a flop then when in reality he had far more assists and his general impact was probably greater in his second spell.

Steve Jones #41, exactly, Donovan's contract runs out in January by all accounts, so why the loan move? He'll be 32 in March next year and even at 32 I still think he could be a very good squad option for us.

He has kept a bit of his pace and would give us a lot of options in wide or attacking midfield areas, for free on a 1½-year deal from January would be good business IMO.

But does Martinez rate him? — that's another matter!

As for McGeady, doesn't his deal run out at some point next year as well? I don't think he's that bad and on the cheap, would be another good squad option I reckon.

I wonder how he'd fit in with the new system.

Not sure if LD would fit now, what is the ruling on how many loanies are allowed? I reckon break the bank for Lukaku as priority.

Doesn't his deal with MLS/Galaxy expire this month?

Or has he signed a new deal since he was last with us? I don't know where Landon is at with form and fitness, but the Donovan of two years' ago is good enough for more than a two-month loan. Would that be all that is on offer?

After Lukaku, who do we really have up top? Jela really seems to have lost it, and not sure Kone ever had it. But his injury probably means we need a back up striker at the very least in January.

Also, once Baines goes (probably in the summer), any funds should go towards a striker before a replacement LB.

Donovan was OFMs flavour of the month, much more liley he will go to ManU than us.
