Moyes suggests Baines deal not so easy

Pointless to speculate so how about some thoughts on this?

Baines has been less attack-minded for the blues this season. We must assume that he is playing to orders.

Previously we must have been set up to make sure that his forays forward were coverable. Whilst we must do the same we don’t need to do it as much.

So, what was the impact of his previous approach in terms of the way that the team was set and what is it now?

Every player has his selling price.
If he offers the selling price he will be gone.
This is the opening salvo from a manager trying to unsettle a player.

So it's started again has it? If he doesn't go in January, we will be hearing/reading the same crap in the summer. Journos love this type of shite.

Baines has been fantastic for us, but the facts are that in January, he will have 18 months left on his contract and be 29 years old. His value will only go down. If Man U or anybody else gets near the £15 million mark, we would be daft to turn it down. The Stoke game will be interesting, as we will see who Martinez turns to without Baines. If it isn't Oviedo, then the lad will start wondering about his future. Barry is solid, but has proven invaluable in centre midfield, and mentions of Hibbert would be back to square pegs in round holes. Oviedo is the only one who could come close to matching Baines attacking ability and energy, but throwing him in against Stoke could be seen as a gamble.

If throwing Oviedo in against Stoke is seen as a gamble then when is he ever going to get a game? If he is not seen as a natural and able replacement at full back now, and I can't see him getting a game as part of the three behind the striker, then we should get rid in January.

If Oviedo comes good or even if he doesn't, I would sell Baines if the price is right. One player doesn'tmake a team and whilst he's been great for us in the last few years, his perfomance seems to have dropped this season. He also sems to want to go to Manu so give him his wish.

In RMs new system, he doesn't have the same impact as under the system played by Moyes so he's not as important from an attacking sense - the two free kicks are the only attacking things or note that I can think of this season. He's still a great player but I don't think we could turn down an offer in the 15m+region for a 29 year old left back. We need to look to the future and can use that money to bring in either 2-3 new players or put it towards a top striker or top midfielder.

Every player leaves at some point....the injury has given RM time to test the options in the squad for left back, to see if he needs to buy a replacement in Jan.

Fairly sure when you're at one of the biggest clubs in the world, it isn't about them being available but about offering enough cash to the club that owns the player's contract. Moyes really knows how to talk things down doesn't he?

Anyway, after what I just saw of Oviedo, I'm even more convinced we can afford to lose Baines.

I don't think we need him after that performance. If anything we played better without him today. I'd love to see Oviedo get a prolonged run in the team.

Thought Oviedo wad great today. Can't recall thinking that about him when he has been pushed back and put under pressure defensively. Would be good to see him get a run in the side though.

Well, hopefully this ongoing charade regarding Baines will be over come 1 Feb.
