The Mirror claims that Everton are looking at Icelandic striker Alfred Finnbogason to come in after they sell Nikica Jelavic when the transfer window opens next.

Roberto Martinez supposedly sent his 'top European spy' to watch the prolific hitman, 24, play for Heerenveen yesterday before a £2million auction starts.

Know nothing about the lad but if wikipedia is to be believed he has scored 38 goals in 44 appearances for Heerenveen.

Looking at his 24 goals last season, he reminds me a lot of a certain Gary Lineker...i.e. not going to be beating 3 men or cracking in from 30 yards, but a fox in the box with a knack of being in the right place at the right time to make it look easy.
If we were to play him it would have to be as part of a 2, can't really see him holding up the play and not sure he'd get the same sort of space in the EPL as in the Eredivisie. Sounds like Celtic, Newcastle and West Ham have been linked earlier this year and for £2-3M though he could be worth a punt.

A bit more than a fox in the box Chris. Just watched him score two great goals on the break against Ajax. Can beat a man, use both feet and has a cool head. Bit lightweight for me but better than Jelavic.

Harold - One and the same. Why not? A 24-year old "prolific scorer" won’t come much cheaper than a 20-year old doing well in the same league.

The main thing is Roberto’s planning for future strikers, since Lukaku is just a stop-gap. Is young Alfred the one? Fine by me. Get him in. But, I like Johannsson.

James. You're dead right with Aron Johannsson. When I first saw him play my eyes boggled. Think it was a game where Klinnsman brought him on for the USA and he secured the win. A real class player with speed and skill.

Interestingly enough, they're both Icelandic albeit Johannson chose to play for the USA national team.

Being icelandic myself I would love Alfred Finnbogason at the club. He's a true finisher unlike Jelly has been lately. His stats in the Dutch league really speak volumes. Aron Johannson actually is Icelandic too but decided to play for USA as he wasn't getting any playing time in the Icelandic squad (Kolbeinn Sigþórsson at Ajax and Alfred Finnbogason were ahead of him in the team).

We would still need a foil for the guy. Lukaku is brilliant and his strength is needed in the premier league but I cannot seeing him staying unless we actually buy him. Jelavic may start to score again if used in our present passing game as he also is no good up front on his own. We need someone like Ba as he is pacey, has strength and scores goals.

Lukaku is a great link up player under our present system of play but he is very closely marked and someone else needs to start scoring. Barkley is playing really well but not scoring goals so that aspect of his game needs sharpening. We need goals from other areas and its no good if only our loan players do the scoring.

I love Johannsson as well but, having just joined AZ last January, I don't know how willing they would be to sell him, especially after sending Altidore to Sunderland this summer. I find it more likely they keep him for the remainder of this season and then depending on his value after the World Cup if he gets the call (and as a USMNT fan I can only hope he does) decide what to do with him in July/August.

Would love to see Aron Johannsson in the side. Could be had on the cheap, I reckon. How about both? A pair of Icelanders (Icelandians?) up front for when Lukaku heads back to Chelski.
