A future job at Barcelona for Martinez

Not content with moving on Everton players, the latest speculation from The Mirror claims that "Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Roberto Martinez after his amazing start as Everton boss."

Barca apparently see the Spaniard as a candidate to be the long-term boss at the Nou Camp, and have been impressed by his start to his Toffees career.

Ajay, I've been saying this for a while now. My major concern is keeping Martinez for the long haul. I think he'd jump at the Barca job, but which manager worth his salt wouldn't?

Having won the world club cub, Everton are reportedly monitoring the performance of Guadiola at Bayern, as a potential backup in case Barcelona consider a swoop for Martinez.

May be true but there is no way we are looking at an approach in the near future.

He has got a long way to go before he will be at the top of the list of a group of top managers who will all fancy the job!

A bit of a stretch after half a season! I think Barcelona are wise enough to take their time with big decisions like this and wouldn't seriously consider appointing a manager just because he is doing well in his honeymoon period at a new club. Laudrup had a great first season with Swansea last year and is an ex-Barca player! Also, Martinez currently has no experience with big money signings. Still a great compliment for Martinez!

However things turn out this season, I have been mightily impressed by the belief that our manager has in his own abilities. To come into the club and change things his way has been magnificent. It would be great if he could be given a decent transfer kitty to work with as I would be very interested to see who he could attract to the club. Just a word of praise for Inaki Bergara - he was nearly always the bridesmaid in his own professional career but as a goalie coach he is immense!!

Interesting speculation, also quite interesting is there seems to be a turnover in Barca managers in 3-4 years or less since Johan Cruyff 1988 1996

I was wondering when this piece would be up. Laudrup might not have gotten it because they didn't finish high enough. Would be interesting how far this piece go at the end of the season. Then again, why would he go to a club that is starting to show a lot of internal strife and regular turnover. Tito didn't last long and one wonders about Martimo.

Ummm... he did just get relegated last season. I'm one of his biggest supporters but come on, give me a break. He'll need to prove a bit more than half a season.

The catch, Sam, mate (#221) is that RM is now in charge of us not Laudruo's Swans and we will not drop to their level(s). That said, Martinez would need to win the Prem to be a serious Barca candidate or at least have a good Champs League run, more likely.

He ain't going nowhere soon.

Still his predecessor was frequently touted as Sir Alex's "natural heir" and look how that turned out.... erm.
