Anyway, I've tweeted Gabriel Marcotti to ask if he's heard anything.

Marcotti is smart but is really hit and miss with a lot of miss. And I'm still a tad pissed at him when he named "Roberto Martinez" as the probable replacement for AVB at Spurs. It was on a ESPN FC segment, and it was because of the usual "Tottenham are a better opportunity" nonsense.

Ok Chris, but he wouldn't be on his own with that one. "Usual" is the right word but their location and transfer funds are hard to match.

This Heurtaux thing is now world wide. Sampdoria, Napoli and Juventus were interested, possibly on loan, but it's now all Everton with a £2m offer. The rumour has spread throughout Europe and is now hitting South America and the Far East.

Certainly doesn't look like a Martinez / Kenwright operation.

The Liorente transfer seems to be gaining a lot of legs in Spain, he wouldn't cost the earth either apparently. I thought he was in his 30s but he's only 27 I believe.

What's all this about 'replacing' Heitinga? He's our fifth choice centre back. Why do you need a replacement 5th choice centre back? We've even got 3 young centre backs out on loan at other clubs.

If you're going to make up rumours, centre back is the one position not to bother with, surely?

Mike (#953), just like the McGeady signing opens up the possibility of Mirallas playing centrally, maybe someone like Heurtaux gives us other options for a back-up defensive midfielder as well as covering central defence.

RM has stated that the aim is for us to be stronger come the end of the transfer window. If Heitinga goes and is not replaced we are a man down, even if he has not had a major role in our season so far.

Heurtaux may be one for the future as well, and I would hope the club is willing and able to take steps to bring in useful players whenever the chance arises. £2 million isn't a huge amount to gamble providing it doesn't prevent us from moving for the ideal striking or defensive midfield players should they become available.

Heitinga was already replaced by Alcaraz. Plus Stones had broken into the first team this season. Duffy is impressing on loan as the 5th choice CB. Really no need to add another CB at this stage.

True, forgot about Duffy. It can be a summer target then. Of course, it can be for tactical variety, though not sure how many tricks RM has up his sleeves.

We have 3 centre backs in there 30s. With all the will in the world their injury recovery times will begin to increase. Roberto also has an eye on European football whether it be CL or EL.

If we can get him now for £2m I say yes, by next season he will have settled at the club and be ready.

If we consider Stones cost £1.5m rising to £3m, this appears a good deal.
