Everton target Chadli

Everton are being linked with a move for Tottenham's out-of-favour winger Nacer Chadli while Chelsea will apparently sell Romelu Lukaku this summer to fund a move for PSG's Edinson Cavani.

Roberto Martinez has said that he has probably done all of his business for the January transfer window — although Bryan Oviedo's season-ending leg break may force a re-think — but The Mirror suggest that he will target Chadli who can play left wing or behind the striker.

Lukaku, meanwhile, was left out by Jose Mourinho when he was discussing his plans to buy a top-class striker this summer, suggesting that the Belgian might not be in the Chelsea' boss' plans:

"Of all our three strikers, no one is the future for the next ten years like we have in other positions.

“Demba Ba is 28, Samuel Eto'o is 32, Torres is 29, so not one of them is the player for ten years, like Eden Hazard or Willian [will]. Normally one of these three strikers will be replaced with somebody who can be here long-term.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are being linked with Lukaku, while Everton will no doubt be hoping they can land the 20 year-old themselves at the end of the season.

Would people be happy if we spent £23m on lukaku? Highly unlikely that we would have that much in my view but if we did.... I'm not yet fully convinced that there are not better options. Romelu could well develop into a top,top striker but his all round game is not good enough yet and for that sort of money can you afford to gamble?

The last paragraph was either written by Lukaku or his agent.

If we spent 15 on Fellaini 5 years ago, 23 for Lukaku should be a cakewalk with our current financial standing.

Fellaini, Jelavic, Anichebe - 40mill. McCarthy and Kone 18mill. Let's say 3mill odd on the loans.

I'd say with the usual kitty for Jan and summer we should be able to afford him. I don't think he'd cost this much, but he is quality. Amazing how 6 weeks can change things, he looked quite invincible before, and admittedly he's in a bit of a lull, but for once we have a striker who we know when he gets the chance he will finish. I hope we buy him, good investment considering his age.

Don't think we nead another wing. A wide player, able to play at LB and as a wing would be ok, though I would us to go for Lukaku most.

Agree he's unfinished product, lacks the right movement and tha ability to hold the ball for more tha 3 sec. So? He's only 20, and has already a proven taste for goals. I bet RM will teach him to hold the pall and be better placed.

I do think the haircut was a bad idea, though. Pienaar looked much better with his rastas, and so did Lukaku. All the MoJo gone with the scissors.

Barkleys haircut was also shocking. As a man in mye 41th year on this planet, and with 10-15 years with less hair every year I know I miss my good old hair, So when these guys with hair still growing on their heads is taking it all away is beyond me.

Wll. If you have long hair like some of the italians have, I would cut it. Looks like women some of them. But not enough to fool me, he he.

Chadli has been utter garbage so hope this isn't true.

As for spending 20m on Lukaku.... Not for me. Has to do a lot more to justify that kind of outlay

If he keeps his head, by the time Mr. Lukaku is say.......24...he will be a top 5 striker on this planet. Now, while he is only 20 and SuperJose is ringing his Portugese panties to get rid of him for spite I say hell yes BUY HIM. At costs beyond comfort, buy him. Keep Barkley. Clone Coleman. Find the next big, sexy Azerbaijani center half on eBay and sell Magaye Gueye to Barcelona for $6 million. Tis written

Sorry, Tim (838), after tonight's goal against Stevenage, Barcelona will have to stump up 34.5 million to land Magaye Gueye ;-)

Kevin 784 and James 803 agreed; Lewis Holtby would be a much better fit IMO. Transfermarkt values his signature at £8M; affordable enough and would be great cover for Ross.

Good shout Tahir, always liked Holtby and only Moyes stubbornness stopped him coming here in the first place.

I've been told that Roberto had £20m to spend this window and will have a further £20m in the summer. I would pay £20m (plus add ons) with my eyes closed for Lukaku and use the rest to strengthen mf. As Steve and Gaute said, this guys going to be a monster of a player and will be worth triple that amount in a few years.
Some of you are so short sighted it's incredible. Just because the lad has gone into a "mini-slump" he's now worthless to you? Thank Christ none of you are Everton's manager, it would be a case of, "Ross, you've gone 3 games without scoring so were selling you to Oldham for 10k"
Buy him Roberto. At 20-30m he will be a bargain.

Colin 880: Who's your source with the £20m now £20m in the summer for RM? If this is the case why hasn't any proper money been spent. Surely with our injury list & the type of players (supposedly) available he'd have made a move for someone. Maybe I'm wrong & there'll be a big player come in in deadline day but Traore is a nobody (come on who'd heard of him before this window) & McGeady was a cert anyway.

Ince, Holtby, Capoue, Lescott, Michy B, Chadli, Hughes, Canales, Defour are all possibilities — I'm not convinced Bill's put his hand in his pocket at all. I'd love to be proved wrong & like the rest of you I'll be glued to the Jim White show til 11pm on the 31st.

I agree we should buy Lukaka but would he want to stay at Goodison if we don't get into the top 4?

Don't be surprised folks if it is not the usual suspects in the top 4 with the rest fighting it out for the 5th spot which most accept is a hindrance more than a help

We should try very hard for Lallana, he is Premier League proven and an Evertonian. He will definitely be a star of the future and worth £20 mill of anyone's money. We know the lad won't be wanting away as he is a Brit.

Not sure why Lukaku would believe he deserves to be in the Champions League. He's 20 and has had one good season with WBA. Surely he recognises himself that he is still developing and is a long way off being top class.

Seems to me that we are also a work in progress and would make a nice fit for each other. In 2-3 seasons both Everton and Lukaku could be in a position to make a real impact on the Champions League. He isn't good enough yet. Chelsea recognise this and so do most of us.

I am not bashing him, I agree he has massive potential, but he is maybe guilty of believing he is something that he isn't – yet!

Holtby is a good call but levy as always will want too much for him. Chadli? Not sure... I haven't seen enough of him to comment.

But for me there's one out there we should grab right away: Ever Banega... The replacement playmaker for Arteta only better. Much better imo. Go get him, Bobby.

With BK at the helm there is no need to worry that Everton will spend £20 mill plus for a player. I agree with other supporters, you do not spend that type of money on potential unless he improves his overall game by the end of the season.

I may sound like a broken record but I still believe we need a quality midfielder that can control the play from defense into attack.

John, I mentioned Banega the other day. I think Sunderland were interested in him.

Banega is suffering from terrible Alcoholism and women problems according to Valencia fans, can't guarantee training or playing these days. Might be worth missing out on. Fernando at Porto is out of contract come the end of the season, as is Manny Fernandes, Blaise Matuidi and others...

Might be worth looking in that direction.

It always makes me chuckle how short sighted some Evertonians are, twitter is the worst. A few below par games and suddenly Lukaku is average. God help us when Martinez goes 4 or 5 games without a win. no doubt fans will be calling for his head.

Lukakus price will rise, he's still young and I would say £23 million is well worth paying out.

Look at it another way, had Chelsea said we will give you Lakaku plus £4.5 million for Felaini we would have snatched their hands off and I doubt not one Evertonian would complain.

If Felaini is worth £27.5 million and Lescott the asking price for Lukaku not to mention Rodwell, then too right £23 million is a bargain, if the player wishes to stay.

You only have to look at the amount paid out for Torres and Carrol to see we are getting a future star on the cheap in my opinion.

As for Defour, I think we might just as well forget about him: Porto have just let their veteran Argentinian midfielder Lucho Gonzalez leave for Qatar, which probably menas they won't sell Defour now.

I love the people saying that anyone who doesn't rate Lukaku is short-sighted as though they can somehow see the future!!

Fact is that he may possibly become a superstar but he may well not. At the moment he is a big lad who is certainly useful but has quite a poor touch and is surprisingly average at holding the ball up.

£23m is an enormous amount to pay on the gamble that he develops the other sides of his game when in fact most 20-year-olds touted for greatness don't ever achieve it.

£23 million for a player who's first touch is shocking, and decides when the whistle blows if he fancies playing or not. He's been useful for us, and dug us out of a hole, but I wouldn't be sad to see us not get him, which we won't.

At the moment, we are selling players and loaning replacements. Our contracted squad seems to get slightly smaller each window, and could happen again this one if the Heitinga interest comes about, and Roberto really has finished his business. It is the most unsustainable model you can think of, yet Bill still gets applauded for getting £7.5m for Jelavic, despite the squad seeing none of it.

If the money we have brought in does materialise in the summer (big if), then we need more than just Lukaku. For me, he isn't worth it.

We MUST make whatever offer is necessary for Romelu in the summer. Jesus, he is as good as we've seen since Lineker.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I have nothing against loans but if nothing comes from it and we are left weaker, or the money disappears as I suspect it already has, then heads must roll.

Think loans will be a big part of everton now. Young up and coming, players at the end of deals, and try before you buy. Some will convert into perm signings. If if gives greater financial stability, so be it.

Lukaku is young & if he's not troubled with injuries will/should improve his skill levels in the next few years, which he needs to.

I've said before he reminds me more of the older type centre forward than a modern style forward which the top sides are favouring nowadays, so the juries out for me also.

Mourinho obviously not sure about him, & I think its because he doe's not think he fits into the system he wants to play.

So I'd be inclined to let him go, I think its probably academic anyhow because I think he'll want away in any case!
