Swansea line up Graeme Jones as Laudrup's successor

Have to say I have never been impressed with Laudrup and I feared seeing him as the favourite for us when Moyes left. Overrated

Such bullshit. Honestly what experience does the guy really have?

couple of months ago people (probably the same rag) were (was) linking him to the Madrid job,
He has a huge buyout fee in his contract, and is the first guy to take them into Europe,

All in all, looks like bullshit.

I hope this is not true. Graeme Jones and Martinez seem to have good chemistry and Jones himself seems to be a very thoughtful analytical articulate sort.

I hope this is BS. Jones and Martinez have worked together for years and this could throw a spanner in the works.

Amazing isn't it how little credit or otherwise the assistant manager & all the other staff get.

They very seldom get a mention or a thought anywhere, they are visible on match days but are invisible most of the other times.

James Stewart #274 It’s true that Swansea are finding things a bit tougher this season – what with the demands of The Europa League,and the inevitable fact that other Prem teams will suss them out a bit. But you surely can’t doubt the job that Laudrup has done there can you?

He’s won them their first ever trophy,got them playing some real good football,and this season won at Old Trafford and The Mestalla. He’s brought in some quality players,and they always give teams a game.

Good news ahead of the Cup game but bad news if it unsettles our back room as suggested here.

It looks like we have dodged a bullet with Laudrup.

But then again, I think he is far too open and honest for the Everton Board to ever accept anyway.

If honesty is about saying what you think (and suits your interests) then Laudrup is an honest man, but if it has anything to do with loyalty I'm just glad we never went there.

As Ray states above, it's amazing how much they do behind the scenes. Perhaps it'll unsettle Brenda. Surely he'll be getting sick of the whining gets across the park.

The bookies fave seems to be Malky Mackay be ironic if he took the job and kept Swansea up whilst Cardiff go down. I think Laudrup will get one of the big Spanish jobs , there's talk of Barcelona getting rid of their head coach in the summer. So I don't think old Jonesey is going anywhere just yet.

I wonder if Roberto will set a record this season by facing so many different managers in his first season. For example WBA (Clarke & Mel) Spurs (AVB & Sherwood), Cardiff (McKay & Soljskaer) Fulham (Jol & the new guy) Palace (Holoway & Pulis) Man Utd (Moyes & Laudrup).

Peter, have a look at the kind of words RM has just used to describe a kit deal that nets our club absolutely nothing. Now try and imagine Michael Laudrup saying those things!

Similarly, could you imagine Laudrup publicly stating he is happy with the January transfer window we had, when we have so many key players injured? I don't think Laudrup would maintain the Status Quo in the same way that RM clearly will.

I'm a Martinez fan and regularly sob at Dan Brierley's posts...but I think he's right on this one.

Make no mistake, I think Martinez is a better manager...but Laudrup is more blunt and less likely to shield the board with a smiley face and constant positivity.

Laudrup has always seemed quite a temperamental character in public, which is why I never thought he was the right man for us.

Never wanted Laudrup in the first place. Don't understand the hype Swansea looked piss poor whenever I have seen them this season.

One of the Spanish journos warned of Laudrup's mentality on his Swansea appointment, saying he doesn't argue he just walks and if you check his record (in light of today) seems he was right.

Standing your corner is one thing but looking after number one at all costs is entirely different.

RM saying positive nothings about the kit deal is just PR stuff. I'm sure we're the only club where fans hammer on about such complete trivialities.

I've actually seen nothing to suggest to me that RM *is* unhappy with this transfer window. I'm not particularly unhappy with it myself.

So now that he has gone do we have to brace ourselves for a bid for our number 2? (Please no toilet jokes. Just because the excrement has hit the fan at Swansea and he was a flash in the pan don’t lower yourself to that level!!!)

Very strange decision by Swansea to sack Laudrup.

5 years ago they were in the League 1 and this month they are playing Napoli in a European match..

A month ago they won at Old Trafford and are still in the F.A Cup.

A year ago they won the League Cup.

This is Swansea City we are talking about, not Arsenal, no disrepect meant to Swansea but you do have to ask yourself what do these clubs really want to achieve?

Its almost as though sacking managers is just the new craze to gain a moment of publicity these days.

Jim - yes it looks crazy. But reading the statement of the chairman it seems that he was concerned that Laudrup would move onto another club anyway at the end of the season and this was causing instability. So the chairman thought it better to ditch him now.

Laudrup was my favourite to replace Moyes - so am most relieved we did not get him.

What are the odds on Swansea now going through about 5 managers in the next few years?

There is a lot to be gained by having a bit of stability at football clubs and now you just get the feeling because a local rival has had their moment in the limelight that every club thinks it needs to 'make waves'.

I have no idea whether Laudrup is a man for the long term or whether he is a fiar weather guy or not but I just cannot figure how after giving the guy substantial funds to build a team and seeing him win a major trophy ( and make no mistake, the League Cup is a major trophy for Swansea City, they are not classed as a big club) that the board have decided to sack the man that built the team capable of winning the trophy.

Strange goings on indeed but then we need only cast a sympathetic eye to once established top flight teams such as Leeds Utd and Blackburn Rovers who have had the soul of their clubs torn to shreds by basically knobheads running them

Jim / David, I agree it's a bizarre set of circumstances. I'm not sure sacking someone because they might be headhunted would be a valid reason in our world, but assuming he's been paid off, he won't be dragging them to an industrial tribunal.

It's strange - and more so because Swansea do look like a well-run club, especially when compared to their neighbours! I'm sure there's more behind the scenes - either Laudrup and/or his agent acting up. One wonders what some of the players he brought in will make of it.

David, I suppose you could be right there, whatever way it has turned out at Swansea, it has not done Laudrup's future plans any good so if he already had a new club lined up for the summer, they may think twice now.

Looking back I was split on who our next manager should have been once Moyes left, it was from Roberto or Laudrup for me, then that Ralf Rangnick guy from Red Bull Salzburg came into the frame and sounded good but looking back I am 100% happy with the choice we made.

For once Kenwright and the board did something that I had previously wished for so I am willing to credit them for that at least.

It now seems like a good time to be playing the Swans though, can see a few of Laudrups signings not being to crash hot on his departure.

I just wonder whether the likes of Michu or Bony are likely to stick around after this season, with Laudrup being the main reason for them joining Swansea.

I have to admit Laudrup was my choice to replace Moyes. I guess he's been found wanting in trying to build on last season's success and coping with the extra challenge of the Europa League.

Whilst superficially a decent bloke, it appears he was too upfront in dealing with his chairman and certainly wouldn't have bought into BK's agenda. He is certainly nobody's lick-spittle and would have found things frustrating here.
