Arsenal eye Martinez to succeed Wenger

I don't think Wenger's going anywhere unless Arsenal completely collapses, which isn't likely. But it sure is interesting how much attention our manager has attracted in just his first season here. He's going to have eager suitors. I hope he plays hard to get.

I think a move such as this is nailed on actually. Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, City, even Spurs - take your pick.

Just as any of our players are fair game for the rich, our manager is in the same boat. Even if you don't rate Martinez, he is raising his profile while he keeps us competitive in the top 7.

I doubt Arsenal will want to make the same mistake Manure made with Moyes. If and when they decide to replace Wenger they'll be looking for a proven winner. A manager of stature and prestige with a record of success behind him. A manager who the big name players will be willing to sign for.

Martinez will have to do a lot more than getting Everton into the Europa before they appoint him as manager.

I think Roberto will have to achieve something with Everton before Arsenal come-a-calling for his services. These Journalists must have the easiest job in the world - go out get drunk wake up with a hangover have the sports editor hovering around looking for a scoop and then use their talents to produce claptrap like this. Of course there is a grain of truth that Everton are so short of cash that we have become a stepping stone for every department in the club - all except the one that matters the owner.

All seems stupidly premature. Expect Wenger to sign his contract, and we'll see what happens at Everton next year when – hopefully – we're back in Europe.

Newspaper speculation from the Daily Star really should be taken with a mountain of salt. The harsh reality is that the elite (rich) clubs will think twice about taking a manager from Everton now, based on how Moyes is faring at Man Utd. I really can't see Arsenal replacing Wenger with a manager who has not won anything with Everton, and taking him solely based on his FA Cup win with Wigan. No matter how nice the football is that he plays. And I'm a huge Martinez fan!

Arsenal are a very rich, perennial CL side that are London-based and play in arguably the best stadium in the country outside of Wembley – they could have their pick of probably 98% of any managers in the world, with the obviously exceptions of one or two. The papers link Martinez because it is an easy name to throw out there. Doesn't mean anything really.

I read the article in full this quote came from. It was referring to the fact that both managers have a similar philosophy as to how the game should be played. It was part of a detailed interview with Arsene and the stupid Star have come up with this as a result.

We all know that Arsene will move upstairs eventually but that is a long way off yet. The man lives eats and breathes football and nothing else
