Young Blues up for new contracts in the summer

The BBC website confirmed this at 10:02, but then followed up with "Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Everton's Seamus Coleman, reports the Daily Mirror. It is reported manager David Moyes wants to sign his former player for £15m and has been given the green light by the United board. Everton paid just £60,000 to sign Coleman, 25, from League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers in 2008."

I hope we can keep him, but would rate him at £30m to ward off the vultures.

I must admit to being surprised that a bid hasn't come in for Osman from Man Utd. He's just the player that Moyes needs right now. I'm sure we could take £20m off their hands!!!!

If Roberto can manage to secure these young players' services then that can only be good for him and the club for the longer term. Unfortunately by securing their services no doubt on higher salaries, Roberto's options for bringing in new blood for next season will be seriously hampered, but I suppose as a club we can't have it all ways.

Let's be honest, Moyes needs a hard-working defender who can play at right back, or in the centre when needed. We all know this interest in Coleman is just a smoke screen to prize Hibbert away from us for a Bale-esque fee.

I'm a bit worried about the Coleman speculation. At 25 and IMO being the best right back in the league with room for more improvement I'd expect £25 million at least. Just when we feel we're a few players from being able to challenge, we always have to sell somebody.

People talk about billionaire investors, but I'd be happy with a £20 million budget each year without having to sell. Surely somebody is out there who is capable of giving us that small platform to kick on? Come on Bill, give it up.

John, don't be worried about Mustard. This is all talk to try to stop the rest of the press discussing how Man Utd have fallen so far.

Unless there is a rapid improvement, DM won't be at Man Utd to buy anyone next season.

At the end of the day, I think the young ones and Barry will all sign as that just gives more weight to the parent club at selling time; it doesn't stop the player leaving.

Coleman just doesn't seem the type to off and leave. In my opinion, and it's clearly conjecture, he seems very happy at Everton and very proud to be a blue.

I'd be stunned if he left for more dosh as long as we're taking care of him sufficiently and reasonably versus his value. He doesn't seem the type to check out the grass on the other side of the septic tank.

Who are United supposed to be in advanced talks with? Themselves?

We haven't let Seamus run down his contract to the point where he can merrily talk to interested parties whenever he likes, have we? If not, then surely there can't be any 'advanced talks' (by any reasonable definition of those words) at this stage.

Why are we seemingly talking about new contracts for players who have been here for less than a season or two?
