Martinez planning raids for Remy and Firmino

I don't think Martinez and Kenwright are likely to broadcast transfer plans, although freebie Colback would seem to be on our financial level.

Remy would be quality in a Roberto Martinez team.

Remy has thirteen goals this season so far. Bony has twenty one. I would rather we try for Bony to be honest. It's not just the goals tally. Swansea try to play a similar style of football to us and if Bony can score twenty one goals in that style, then there is no reason why he can't do it with a better squad at Everton.

True, but Bony has much better players behind him. I have a feeling Remy would have scored more than thirteen were he not at Newcastle. I think either player would suit us well.

Bony looked ok at Goodison but does he do it often enough, a little like Lakaku who I wouldnt pay more than 10m for not with that first touch he has anyway. Lets not forget Kone will comeback in and give us a boost upfront. Stephen @4 Bony has better players behind him? The league table says otherwise.

Something about Remy and his comments that I don't like. He is clearly , in my opinion, a mercenary and is waiting to see who will pay the most money. And whoever does, will have to keep piling up the cash whenever there is any further interest from another club.
ps. Isn't it gratifying to see that Fellaini, you know, the one who's agent/dad said was a top 4 player, didn't even make the squad at Old Toilet yesterday?

Kieran, Bony has 16 Premier League goals in 32 appearances (a 1 in 2 ratio) whereas Remy has 13 in 24 (more than 1 in 2). Remy was also pushed out wide initially for Newcastle. I'd prefer Bony honestly, but Swansea will not sell for much less than 20million. We've get Remy for half of that. I'd love Firmino too, and I'd take Colback. Let's hope that this is one of the rare true Mirror stories.

It will be interesting to see who comes and goes in the next window ! With the World Cup looming, a good performance by potential targets, usually leads to inflated prices !

I couldn't believe how we pressed the self destruct button yesterday at Southampton, that's CL out of the window, unless a bizarre series of results dictates otherwise !

If we could get Remy, Firminho and Colback in with Traore and Deulofeu on loan and one or two youngsters stepping up I think that would be a very solid Summers work and give us more goals and creativity for next year.

If we are looking down the route of Hoffenheim, Kevin Volland, 21 years old, would be a good one to go for. He looks very decent.

Sam I don't think there is much chance of Remy as I think he is the type who likes the bright lights of London. If we decide we don't want or don't get Lukaku I would prefer to get players who won't at the drop of a hat say "I need or want CL football" - when what they really mean is I am a greedy so and so and I deserve more cash. I doubt Felli is losing any sleep not being in the United squad. Get some young hungry talent into the club who have a point to prove - it's a gamble but not as much of a gamble as spending all the kitty on one or two players. I think this close season is a time for Roberto to radically alter the squad - every player apart from those who have been injured for the whole of the season have had their chance to stake a claim - some have impressed some haven't and Roberto will need to be brave in the summer.

Patrick I agree that Remy would likely chose Arsenal or another CL club over ours but if we did get him I think he would do a very good job and if he banged in 20 goals for 2 seasons and then left for a healthy profit I would not be unhappy. Mainly I like him because I don't think we will find many better strikers for the 10m that it reported to be his release clause. As ever we have to spend whatever money we get as cleverly as possible and good value is crucial.

I also agree with getting in good, hungry, young players though of course Aston Villa provide the cautionary tale.

Agree with Ray (#062) in so much that I really don’t fancy taking Remy on the basis of his character and past comments or recent murmurings from the Barcodes that he’s dragging out his recovery to save himself for the World Cup. I’d rather see us push the boat out for Bony or go for someone from further afield, eg, Bacca from Sevilla.

Firmino I like a lot, but he recently signed a new contract so either he’s not looking to move or he won’t be moving on the cheap.

I thought Firminho had just signed a contract extension so I would count that one out, Remy is a good player but a money grabber go and get Vossen.

Pity about yesterday. Jags wasn't having his best season but, for me, the moment he got injured, all hopes of Champions League and FA Cup went flying out the window.

I agree with Karl in that I wouldn’t pay more than 10 for Lukaku who besides the first touch tends to be lazy against certain sides. Love Bony and wonder about a flyer on Darren Bent. Hoping to visit Goodison next year. Looking forward to learning more from you folks.

Julian, I'd be happy to see Fellaini back at the right price. If we'd had him this year in a Martinez team, I could have seen him scoring regularly in situations where the Lukaku / Barkley axis has been lacking.

As many have noted our deal ball play this year has been atrocious, and once again, a big aggressive bloke in the middle might have stirred up some of the defensive configurations which Martinez has struggled to contend with.

Yes he is but I think Martinez sees him as a McCarthy back up in the squad which I would be happy with. Of the three defensive midfielders we have been linked with recently signing Colback on a free is better than paying money for either Cork or Rodwell.

Fellaini's had annus horribilis, labelled as a Moyes boy and potentially a pariah in the dressing room. Really, it hasn't gone that well on the field (vs. bank balance) for anyone that left, except perhaps Lescott in 2012-13.

And to get back onto the original point, The Mirror are pretty good with the Everton stuff, especially under Moyes. I'm not sure how accurate they are now under the new regime.

Remy is indeed a mercenary but does that make him any different from many other modern-day footballers? I mean, Man City have won a PL title with a whole squad of mercenaries. I just think they will be a whole host of interested parties trying to acquire his signature....so, I just think we'l miss out on this little mercenary.

Firminho would be a very good addition, and instead of signing Colback, I would be looking at Tomas Rincon who plays for Hamburg and is a free-agent this summer. Rincon is a tough tackling midfielder (a little too tough at times) and is very comfortable on the ball....would be very good cover and competition for Barry, McCarthy and Gibson. With European football looking very likely its imperative to have more options to rotate. Barry and McCarthy have looked worn-out at times.

Remy would be a good signing, think Bony would be better but with the kind of season he’s had at swansea it means he will be almost as expensive as Lukaku, definitely going to need a ST and CM though whether we sign luk and baz permanently or not.

I feel Remy is priced out of our range. Don't mind him being with us but at what cost to our budget? Some of the free transfer names sound good, especially that they have done well in their current clubs. Colback or Rincon (or both) is good. I feel there is a chance RM is aware of the Rincon situation Mark. Letting Holtby slip by us when he was available on free transfer still stings.

Watched Chelski and Citeh. 2 physical sides with one or two little guys who are strong, fast and tough. We have far too many powder puff lightweights and need an injection of size and hardness throughout. Wanyama strode over our midfield like Gulliver on Lilliput. Bolasie and Puncheon murdered us at Goodison. Against the organised rough giants of Citeh, they didn't get a sniff.

Harold I couldn't agree more, you look at all the top teams and they all know how to handle themselves legally or otherwise. We need a leader on the park from somewhere but they appear to be a dying breed in the modern game which is probably why Ossie remains one of our more influential players despite no longer having the legs to complete for more than an hour.

I suppose that it is also difficult to integrate a 'character' into a dressing room which on the whole appears stable and content although lacking in that true killer instinct when the chips are down. Oh for an Andy Gray or Peter Reid character it could make the world of difference to this current team. Patrick / Dennis. Last week I witnessed 2 identical scenarios with different conclusions. Stones in one, Skrtel in the other.

The defender is standing near the penalty spot and the ball is hammered down the middle towards him around hip height.

Stones twists around at great speed and blocks the shot with the seat of his pants. Luckily it bounces to a blue shirt.

Skrtel, in the identical scenario, stares at the ball, bends his body forward, and heads it out for a corner.

In the early minutes on Saturday, with Coleman caught out of position, Lambert drifted to the vacant space and Stones failed to go with him, even though his job was to cover his fullback.

Lambert received the ball, under no pressure from Stones, who kept his distance and made sure he got out of the way when the ball was crossed. When faced with a right foot cross or shot, the lad always attempts a block with his own right foot, as it enables him to turn and use his backside as a shield. How you've not noticed is bewildering. I first picked it up at Stoke when he headed the ball out to the guy who smashed it back in. Stones flew out with a backward block and when the ball was whizzing into our net, he and the shooter were standing side by side, facing the same way. Since then he has done it many times and I watch in terror whenever someone readies to shoot the ball past him. He can block a runner. He can slide tackle with both feet. He just doesn't fancy being whacked in the goolies.

I knock Stones for sometimes trying to block with the seat of his pants but in fairness, he's one hell of a talent. The way he glides with the ball like an Olympic figure skater is truly awesome. The positional problems have been costly but he was chucked in at the deep end and the competitive experience will have taught him more than training sessions at Finch Farm. Let's hope he fulfils this early promise.

I agree Harold. He is not the finished article by a stretch but his potential is awesome. Like others have said, you have to overlook the odd mistake because actually trying to take a risk separates good players from great. The Moyes safety first attitude is what cost him.

Just don't take risks all the time, like Barkley seems to be doing at the moment. He is at a crossroads at the moment. Worst player by a stretch at both Crystal Palace and Southampton. Plenty of the ball versus CP but gave it away nearly every time; totally anonymous versus Southampton.

He now needs to work on consistency and doing the simple boring things well, not the Hollywood side of his game.

Yes Joe, Barkley is certainly having problems a the moment and you're probably right in suggesting that he should just concentrate on doing the simple things correctly. Of course, playing a deeper role is alien to all his natural instincts. Neil Warnock, his manager at Leeds, reckons Ross does not have one single defensive cell in his entire body.

When asked about getting the best out of Messi, Guardiola replied. "Keep him happy and give him the ball."

For me, this is were we are going wrong. Instead of building the team round the lad, we are fitting him in. Naismith may work his socks off but he is not a Ross Barkley. Let Naismith be the one who is fitted in. We are lucky enough to own a very special talent but, right now, we are in danger of abusing it........and maybe even losing it.

It's almost that time of the year when the media rumours will rain down on us once again but the more astute managers will not reveal their hands until a deal is done and I believe RM is one of those. I am sure he already has one or two people in mind especially from the continent.

Sadly, 4th place looks lost except mathematically and so financially he will not have a lot of money to play around with which would have been guaranteed from the Champions League. So it is then that the top 4 get richer and even Spurs and Man Utd will have plenty of riches also. Still, Everton have a good nucleus to build on so we can be optimistic for a better season next year.

It was only a handful of games that cost them a great finishing position. Unfortunately the Gunners came up against the Barcodes today who have been the poorest team around for many weeks now and I do believe Pardew will be on his way, so they couldn't really have expected a shock result.

I see can Colback as the permanent replacement for Barry, there is also a rumour down here in South Wales gathering momentum that RM is very interested in Ki too.

I found it interesting that RM talked about the transfer kitty as a matter of fact rather than conjecture or I'll have to wait and see?

If we look at what we need to compete in Europe as well as the PL, RMs six or seven players looks about right...Two defenders, two midfielders and three forwards, or two forwards and a goal scoring attacking mid.

To sign both Colback and Rincon on frees would be very good business, I would also be happy to see RM land both Remy and Bony for a combined 25m with Pienaar thrown in to one of the deals.

Pre season I expect to see a lot more of Greening and Garbutt, particularly Garbutt as Baines and Oviedo will have extended leave.

I can't help wondering if we might see Arteta's return.

I’d like us to tie down Barry and Lukaku. If not then Colbeck (free), Mario Suarez (min. fee as he’s almost out of contract), and Rodwell if we can get him on the cheap.

Up front it looks like Traore will stay as will Del so, if we’re going to spend money I’d spend it on Bony (for Lukaku if he leaves). If there’s any money left get Bruno Martins and Redmond in. With those 7-8 players luis the return of Gibbo and Kone we should be fine next season squad wise.

It doesn’t look like my personal favourites e.g. Holtby and Routledge will be coming. So my new additions would be:

Colback
Suarez
Rodwell
Martins
Redmond
Bony?

Plus keeping Barry, Deulofeu, Traore and... Lukaku?

I must add that the players I mentioned would cost us less than £30m and would add strength and class to the team.

As good as Barry has been - his wages are very high - so a younger, cheaper option like Colbeck could be preferable to Bobby.

Lukaku isn't worth the 25 mil being touted by the rags. His first touch and passing are highly questionable at times. I'd like him to stay - but 15 mil tops to me.

Arteta and Lescott - no thanks. They wanted out - let them stay out. Rodwell however ... um ... maybe. If only to save a once bright career from completely floundering into the abyss.

Keeping Delofeu and some other class loanees from Barca and Madrid wouldn't go amiss either. (Let's really p*ss Wenger off this time).
