Martinez eyes reunion with Diame

I am all for it. He is tough strong in the air, controls passes and is captain material. I have not seen too much of him lately though.

At £3.5M, I would say go for it. But the biggest priority is to get players that have money troubles out in Europe, that would help us greatly in getting Bony. Lukaku needs time in Europe to get back to his best, because he has declined in form and performance ever since November-December.

Hmmm..I think the fee mentioned seems about right, not sure I would be paying too much for Diame in all honesty.

He seemed to start his West Ham career in August 2012 quite positively, I heard great reports on him during those early West Ham performances with Diame even being linked with Arsenal st one stage.

I have never been too convinced by him whenever I have watched him really. He always looks a bit casual and I am not sure what he would bring to the way we play under Martinez.

Would personally rather see us go after Tom Huddlestone as a replacement for Gareth Barry.

Huddlestone is a good passer of the ball and has played in the Premier League all of his career.

Because he is, I believe, out of contract in the summer and refuses to sign a new one. He was strongly linked to us in January as well.

At 26, the guy has a good few years ahead of him and lots of premiership experience. For 3.5m he would at least be a good squad back up in central midfield.

On the other hand this is clearly re-hashed, lazy journalism from the mirror.

I think we should get a couple of good years out of Gareth Barry.

He has fitted in very well and with Gibbo and some squad additions would get the necessary rest now and again.

Diame, Colback on a free, Lukaku permanently and a couple of Bobby gems on loan from La Liga will do me.

From what I have read, Mario Suarez is under contract til June 2017. Not sure why he would want to leave Atletico anyway.

I know football is a game of divided opinions but I just fail to see where all this clamour for Jack Colback has emerged from.

From the games I have seen he is just a cruncher, an average one at that and the logic in bringing both Diame and Colback in would be madness, neither are creative and neither would add goals to our midfield and to say either of them are great passers of the ball would also be wide of the mark.

Diame had spent most of the season taking stick for lazy half arsed performances.

We already have McCarthy who does Colbacks job a hundred times better.

What Everton need in the summer is a creative technician of a central midfielder, someone to spot a pass plus get us a few goals, that may not come cheap but if we try and shop around who knows.

Then we need to make certain we sign a quality striker.
Playing just one up front means it us imperative that it is a striker capable of scoring 20 plus goals.

Failure to find these kind of players then it will sadly be a case of not progressing the team from the great position we have put ourselves in at present.

We have had a good season but that good could have been great if we could have scored a few more goals to win tight matches against opponents who park up their stagecoach.

Everton need a big stronger influence in midfield and if Barry is going then Diame could be a good buy at the right price.

Let’s face it, Osman and Pienaar are getting past their best and McGeady has yet to establish a starting role.

I also like Huddlestone but he is a little one paced and having said that his passing makes up for it. Personally I would like to get Wanyama from Soton if he was to become available.

What we don’t have in abundance, Jim, is cover for the two deep midfielders which is what Colbeck is. I wouldn’t expect to see him starting too many games but would be useful in League Cup games and Europa League games in Moldova or wherever.

Diame has looked ordinary every time I've seen him play. He thinks he's something he isn't.

As for Mario Suarez? Well he might leave Atletico but you can put your money on him joining another Champions League team.

Lukaku? Forget it, he'll be off to Roma on a 3yr loan deal like Courtois from what I've read.

I live in Brentwood so most of my mates are Hammers; every one will tell you Diame is lazy and makes Lukaku look like Mr Livewire!

Keith, you can't always trust fan opinions. Last year most on here would have told you that Naismith belonged in the third division and the year before that Seamus Coleman was categorically not a right back!

I wouldn't dismiss him as 'crap'. He's capable of looking like a complete beast on occasion and offers a physical presrncewe don't currently possess but he's hardly shone this season. Then again, he is currently disgruntled and plodding about in a dire West Ham team that bypasses midfield as much as possible and plays to no other method than boot it up to the bad guy out of 'Kindergarten Cop'.

Maybe he just can't be arsed playing for Sam Allardyce, I mean, all the long balls from defence to Andy Carroll must be soul destroying when your a midfielder just wanting to play football.

£3.5m for a Senegal international with over 150 Premier League appearances and one who the manager already knows sounds like good business to me. We are short in midfield and, though he wouldn't be the playmaker we need, he would be a solid squad member who would reinforce us for our (fingers crossed) European campaign. We would have to pay a lot more than that for a lot of unproven midfielders!

Naismith did belong in the third division last year and Coleman's defending was poor.

Diame looks very skilfull but lazy and the quotes I've read suggest he thinks his shite is chocolate so it's a no for me.

Not an exciting prospect.. .just another journeyman Premier League player.

Let's start talking about players who will lift the club and excite the fans. I want us to be going for top players if we are to improve next season. I do not see Diame or others mentioned here as the players who will get us challenging for the top.

Wanyama is the best target.

It's worth noting that Southampton were doing great early in the season when he was playing and then after he got injured they where rubbish.

He came back and they beat the Blues.

I would be ok with signing Diame – plenty of experience, cheap and would be a decent squad player in a position where we seem injury prone.

Not sure we can rely on Gibson much, think he is our version of Darren Anderton!

If were serious about signing players they need to tick certain boxes!

They need to be young, hungry and with good resale value!

Saying that we should look at the PSV team, they have a number of quality players. Especially Adam Maher and Mephis Depay! Both have a good eye for goal and are able to unlock defences with a killer pass! Both worth every penny!

What about David Meyler of Hull City. Big lad don't get knocked of the ball easy. about 23. Seen him play a few times. Liked what I saw. Doesn't score a lot of goals though. But either does Barry or McCarthy.

Just remember it's the rags doing the talking - not Bobby. When he chooses who he wants - then I'll back him whatever.

The first time I saw Diame play I was mesmerized scored a goal some great passing hard to knock off the ball. Since then he has mostly been out injured or playing a stinker. For someone to be compared to Lukaku for laziness is bad. His laziness and first touch are probably the reasons why Moanalot let him go out on loan and why he'll probably sell him this summer.

Lukaku may only be twenty but he's also had a few season of first team play and isn't showing much improvement. Great clinical finisher but today's tactics demand that he do more than just score goals.

Whenever i've seen Colback for Sunderland he's played in the "Pienaar position", so I don't know where all this defensive midfielder stuff is from.

What about Holtby and Parker from Fulham. Holtby is only twenty three, is a full German international and can get the chance to play much better with us than with Fulham. I know Parker is thirty three but he's an intelligent player and we could get a couple of seasons out of him. The price would need to be right though.

I do think that Bent from Fulham would be an absolute bargain if we could sign him. He's only thirty and I do think there is a quality striker in him.

I hope RM reads this if he was in any way inclined to sign Diame.

Diame, Cleverley, Colback... this is getting depressing. From the same line of utter shitdom as Kone, Alcaraz and Robles. Fortunately, unless the medical confirms muscle fatigue and soft tissue as pre-conditions, we won't sign them.

Cleverley won't set the heart racing, let's be honest, what holding player does?

However, Cleverley would be like the Gibson and Barry signings. He would immediately be dismissed as shite and people seem to have a downer on him.

Let's say we took him. What do we get?

An England international, right age, has come through the system at Man Utd (it makes a difference) and has played loads of Champions League football, as we commence in the Europa League.

He's a good player; he's not top class but he's a good player and knows the drill in the Prem and in Europe. We play two holders, pair him with a defensive one and he's the tempo man.

Is he out of contract or is his deal winding down? Depending on the fee and the circumstances, I'd have no problem saying take him.

Fans are pretty much unimpressed by holding players in general; it's an unspectacular, defensive, possession based position where, if you're a ball playing one, the tempo of your passing is key. It's not a showy position.

He'd be a good signing if Barry doesn't sign. And if Barry doesn't, we are going to need two holding players in, at least, as you can't rely on Gibbo, who for me is in the last chance saloon in terms of fitness. Another season like this one and he's going to have to go, as he's eating wages with no return.

Cleverley would be a very good signing at the right price, Diame as well.

So many "ifs" and "buts" at this time of the year... I hate it.
