Who the hell would want to get on the manager merry-go-round at Spurs? It’s a relatively wealthy club but has no plan, direction or objectives. They have a scatter gun transfer policy and managers appear to have no control over what goes on at the club. It’s professional suicide IMO.

I agree, who would want to manage Spurs??? Their fans are a disgrace, never satisfied. Just laughable with Everton in the media right now. Spurs are a joke at the moment. Considering the players and the cash the club has had over the last ten years, the fact that it has not been able to settle on a quality manager is beyond belief. There must be something badly wrong there. It almost makes me feel better about how Everton has been ran over the last ten years.

I'm fairly sure that Roberto would not go to a club which has a Director of Football. Don't get me wrong and I love him for it, but it's probably the reason that he turned down the RS.

Is there something wrong with the manager they have? Every morning Sherwood reads in some rag or other that his board are looking at another manager to replace him. It would appear they'll appoint anyone except him.

Martinez stuck with Wigan when he could have gone to bigger and richer clubs. He does not appear to be the sort of manager that jumps from club to club just because they have a bigger transfer budget.

Besides, after last summer's splurging, unless they are going to flog some of their overpriced flops, I doubt their transfer budget will be that much bigger than ours. Martinez has started a project here and I think he'll see it out.

Talk about a non-story! As if Martinez, after one season at Everton, would jump ship and join the basketcase club of the Premier League; a club with all the gear and no idea. File under 'laugh like Hell'.

My understanding was that RM has an ambition to prove you can compete against the big spenders without the money. He seems intent on building a dynasty here, and whilst Kenwright leaves him to get on with it, cannot see him moving anywhere

There is no way he will go to Spurs. I would not be surprised though to see DM at the helm there or as others say old Harry back. The biggest mistake they made was getting rid of Redknapp even though they finished 4th.

I think Roberto will want to prove himself at Everton and if things go well for him he will probably go to a big club abroad.
Until then we have exciting times to look forward to.

Why would he take a step down and join Spurs? RM will stay unless a top club like Barca or Madrid come calling

I feel for Sherwood as he is evidently genuinely honoured to manage that club and, as a fan, it is really impressive to see that passion from a manager - not to mention incredibly rare. I fell we have a more muted version with Martinez due to him being loyal but not a lifelong fan. Let's not forget the announcement when his daughter, Luella, was born by telling the world she had arrived, was healthy and she was an Evertonian!

I think if Martinez had the chance of managing Barca he would still probably want another year or two of stability to avoid 'doing a Moyes' and taking on a task he is not ready for.

I would like to think that Martinez could make himself this generation's SAF but with Everton. Not that I'm getting carried away after less than a single season or anything, haha.

RM, although he is a nice guy, is painfully ambitious, and has a huge ego [in a good way]. I think it's actually part of his plan, to hit the heights with a team that HASN'T spent huge amounts of money; so he can say: 'See, look what I did' !!

These articles are printed just to try wind us up. You just got to laugh at them. Like #5 Peter Murray. Expect a lot more about our players over the summer. Sooner we tie down Stones, Barkley, Coleman and McCarthy on improved deals, the better! I think Baines has lead by example and the rest will follow.

I have often asked if it really is 'success' if you walk into a massive club with an unlimited transfer budget?

Basically a column showing up pitiful sports 'journalists' who backed the appointment of Moyes, then when he got the heave-ho, tried to make out they knew he was shite.

Whatever his merits as a manager, I wish people wouldn't jump all over his sound bites. Talking of Everton's history and understanding it blah blah, he'd have been doing the same at Liverpool.

Obviously, the guy has his head screwed on not wanting to manage them lot. But when you're so painfully aware of winning hearts and minds, then it's no more than a sales pitch.

He won't go to Spurs. Too much momentum in his career, and where would a Spurs failure position him?

I have not a clue if there's any truth or not in the rumour, but we are going to have to get used to Roberto being the target for other clubs. He's bound to be, because it as obvious as the nose on your face that he's destined for the top in management.

My guess for what it's worth is that he'll be with us for 2 or 3 seasons more; after that... who know's!

Let's hope he can attract someone who fancies buying a club with loads of potential with a manager that can take Everton to the very top if some serious money was invested in the playing staff.

It's about time, there's definitely an opportunity for someone.

Roberto had flawless support throughout from Dave "leg etc" Whelan. Spurs may brag a bigger budget that we do, but Wigan won more silver than either club

I'm certain that Roberto is intelligent enough to have looked around and carefully decided that Everton is where he can practice far more of his managerial skills than with some "hormonal maniac" demanding silverware delivered in style by mid October.

For now, I'm utterly delighted that he's our manager. Roberto has delivered and charmed and expanded our horizons. I did not shed a single tear when the managerial vacancy was announced at Goodison. I would be DEVASTED if Roberto was to move on during close season. He wont

We might post (reactionary) bollocks from time to time, but we know more about our team than 99.9% of hacks do and even if it was ALL bollocks, I'm fairly sure there aren't many TWers getting a hundred grand a year (or whatever) for their posts.

Not a snowballs chance in hell Roberto would touch the Spurs job. He's obviously a guy who likes to plan ahead and build teams. Can you imagine him at spurs with Levy and Baldini breathing down his neck? Buying players because they have nice sounding names, stabbing him in the back after his first defeat etc....

There's far too much politics in the Spurs job that's why they've had about 8 managers in the last 10 years. That's why they've never become a top 4 team on a consistent basis, too much instability.

A manager might want to go there knowing that after 6 months he will get a massive pay off but a manager who wants to protect his reputation and grow with a club wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Roberto has a 2-3 season success at Everton and goes to Arsenal, I think.

Why on earth would Martinez go to a club like Spurs? They are as limited as we are in terms of breaching the top four imo. They've got more money, but their squad is incredibly bloated and over-paid. If he wants the big move, he will get it by doing well with us for a few seasons, or he could make us big and not move at all.

And Chris... large bets go on bullocks. They always have, and always will, because people are stupid. The amount of odds which have come tumbling down because of mindless rumors is absurd. It will be proved true in this respect too.

Ahh... Tony Draper (#062) a man after my own heart. It's a pity (for Spurs & the barcodes) that points aren't awarded for the most delusional fans because they would be 1& 2 every year. I like going on Spurs forum because you can get gems such as (and this was today on Teamtalk) "we should break the bank for Barkley & Hazard" in the past they've mooted Guadiola for the Spurs job, and last week they were whinging how it was only a couple of seasons ago they were a bigger club than the RS! (you couldn't make it up).

Agree with everyone that if Martinez was to leave it would be to a big club that regularly plays in the CL, not a team that the last time they won the league was 53 years ago, and has appeared in the CL once.

Let Moyes go to Spurs they haven't won the League since 1961 so they wont be upset when he fails.
