Vellios signs off on Twitter

Apostolos Vellios has sent what appear to be farewell messages to Everton and its fans on Twitter after 3½ years with the club. The Greek striker's contract is up this summer and is unlikely to be renewed.

Vellios was signed by David Moyes in January 2011 and seemed to have kick-started his Premier League career early in the 2011-12 campaign when he scored three times coming off the bench.

Dogged by rumours concerning his attitude — Roberto Martinez claims he refused more than one loan move before finally accepting a short stint at Blackpool — he has struggled since then to break back into the first team and has not made a senior appearance this season. The 23-year-old made a point of thanking Moyes in one of his tweets after doing to same to Everton fans for their support.
