How many of these 29-/30-/31-year-old strikers can we afford to buy? We need players 25 and younger who are quick or agile (pref both) with a future sell on value:

Carlos Vela, ex-Arsenal youngster now doing well in Spain; Hernandez of Man Utd; Welbeck (although many do not like him), he’s fast, can shoot, head, and run at pace with the ball (also decent in other positions); Michu; Insigne at Napoli (again, quick, skillful and versatile).

These are the type of players the Blues need, players who have done decent to get to a good level but not quite fulfilled their true potential. Bobby can get an extra 20% outta them, resulting in a 15-goal-a-season man or a decent-sized profit.

Ba may get a bag of goals for a year or two... but what then?? Off to a USA team or something like that on a free?

Has Jose publically declared Lukaku's season a success? That would be very odd considering there have been plenty on here banging on about how the astute Mourinho doesn't rate him.

£10 million for a 20-year-old doesn't look like good business when compared to the likes of Michu, Bony and Benteke, though I do think he would score goals for us. His wage demands would appear to be the biggest stumbling block, unless he is satisfied that he has seen the last of his really big money contracts.

Personally, I am convinced we were only in for Ba ahead of Lukaku last summer because everyone expected he would be the one who wouldn't figure significantly in Mourinho's plans, so I would be surprised if he is top of Roberto's wish list this summer.

I meant to say "compared to how much Swansea and Villa paid for the likes of Michu, Bony and Benteke..." 'cause they would obviously now command much higher transfer fees.

It's a no from me. This guy comes across as being all about the money. He first arrived on a free transfer – didn't he fail a medical at Stoke and end up at West Ham? He had a £3m release fee in his contract activated by Newcastle (meaning more money for him) and then got a £7m release inserted there. Chelsea were made aware of it, activated it, more money for him, and now he's ready for another move?

These type of players have huge entourages, mainly relatives, and it's all about the money. The last sort of player we need to be honest.

A big yes from me. He is a better player than Lukaku and was never given a fair chance at Chelsea. He was the league's top scorer when he went there from Newcastle. I would back him to get 20.

Ba was coming to us at the time Newcastle had him. He came for a look around FF and supposedly wanted to sign there and then but his agent talked him out of it. Then Newcastle came in too and offered him more wages. His agent supposedly came to Everton and told them if they paid him (1-2M) then he would make sure Ba signed for them. Everton told him to "sod off" and he signed for Newcastle.

He's too old, has an inflated transfer fee, on an exorbitant salary, too slow, has a bad attitude and will likely disappear off to the African Nations.

I do see the appeal James. At his best he was a real good striker. Always appears to me though that he is a luxury striker. Will finish if all of the players around him will do his work. He has had a torrid time at Villa and done nothing at Fulham. I think Bent is one of them that football has left behind. Nowadays strikers are expected to contribute without the ball, hold up play and even track into midfield, for this reason, and his extortionate wages it would be a no for me

Maybe on loan to provide an option but £10m is far too much. We already have one ageing injury prone striker. Bent and Bendtner are bad ideas too I think.

In terms of bodies and good value apparently Fraizer Campbell has a relegation release clause of £1m. Not a world beater by any means but a decent option at that price.

Ba has 3 agents! The guy's a mercenary and after the season he just had is not worth 3 Million more than Chelsea paid for him. His agents probably sold this story to press to drum up another pay day from a mug of a manager. Roberto's to smart. File this in the B-I-N!

Ba will not cost £10 million. It's a rubbish valuation. It would give us out and out strikers aged 29 and 30.

Personally I think he is a great striker, and that to point to stats for his Chelsea career, during which he has been primarily a sub, is irrelevant. He scored 7 in 12 appearances for West Ham, 16 in 34 one season with Newcastle, and 13 in 20 during the next. He has been consistently good over a sustained period, with the exception of the second half of his first season with Newcastle when he was shunted out wide to accommodate Cisse, and understandably lost form.

I'd definitely prefer Lukaku for £20 million. I'd love Hernandez if not, and I expect he'd be cost between £10 and 15 million.

Sam. You're the first I've seen to agree with what I've thought for a while. Have watched Campbell a few times this season and have been impressed. With a European campaign in sight he would be an ideal squad player imo but Ba - NO

I would like Lukaku but doubt we will get him as I think he is worth well more than the £20 mill bandied about. Any bidding will start at £20 mill and rise from there.

I would like a striker who is already settled in the country, under 25 and can play in more than one formation and suggest the club could do worse than look at Austin (QPR), Ross McCormack (Leeds) as well as the names mentioned here.

That said, if the club look in Europe then they should look at Bafetimbi Gomis – out of contract, Mauro Icardi, Abel Hernandez and Domenico Bearadi who all play in Serie A.

Zlatan Ibramhimovic is 32 and still banging the goals in, also got the Player of the Year for the second season running.

Now I am not comparing Ba anywhere near the same class, just hilighting that at 29 some on here have Ba ready for the rest home.

He is the same age as Kone, he is a number of years younger than Distin, Gerrard, Giggs so by all means have a go at the asking price, but 29 these days is not retirement age in football.

Brian, the difference between Ba and Ibrahimovic is not so much the age it's more the 'still banging the goals in' part. Ba failed to hit double figures this year in 30+ games.

Not a big fan of Ba's. Happy to keep singing his name though.
