If we could get him for 8m that would clearly be an absolute bargain. I think he is a better all round player than Lukaku (at the moment) and if fit all season I would back him to get 20 goals for us and a hatful of assists. He may be a mercenary but who really cares if he fires us to top 4 and hopefully a trophy.

The rub is that all Europe knows of him and his ability and I suspect he will get offers from CL teams that will be more appealing to him at this stage of his career. He was a guest at an Arsenal match a few weeks back and I reckon that is where he will end up unless they can get better.

Would be nice, but as Sam says, surely he will have plenty of offers to choose from. He would be an obvious choice for Arsenal, but Wenger doesn't seem to do the obvious things!

Remy does not fit that bill. Get back to QPR...the club who paid good money for you.

For £8m I doubt you'd be able to sign many better strikers, but I'm not sure about him with the way we play, I think with the way we keep the ball and build up through midfield we would be better with a striker that is much more suited to holding the ball and being able to pass with his back to goal instead of someone looking for through balls to run on to.

I feel like the 8 million would be a good price as he is a great player, but that's just the buy out... can they not charge more than that???

Remy is class and I would love him at the club, but as others have said, CL teams may well turn his head!

Michael (739), the clause essentially says that if any team that comes in with an £8m bid or higher then QPR have to accept it but, seeing as we won't be the only team in for him, it would probably take more than that to get him.

There's no question he is a good striker but I have my concerns over his temperament and off-the-field distractions!

This is one of those lazy arsed pieces to fill space. Within a couple sentences we are linked with a bid then ruling us out because the player is only interested in going to a side that is playing CL football next season.

Surely, if the release clause is £8m it remains at £8m and can't be raised simply by virtue of more than one club meeting it? If ten clubs slap in offers for that amount then they would all have to be accepted and it would then be down to the player to choose his destination. Once he's finished rigorously rubbing his hands together at the prospect of now being able to bump up his personal terms of course.

Why would anybody offer more than the buy out? If it's an 8 million buyout a club doesn't have a better chance of signing him by offering 12 million.

20 clubs can offer 8 million and then it's totally up to the player, usually basing his decision on how much fatter his bank balance will be.

That's correct. Any bid of £8m will activate the clause and has to be accepted by QPR. The bidding war will be the signing on fee and contract offered to Remy. I would love it if we pulled this one off, but for £8m there will be a lot of clubs interested. Arsenal really need a striker like Remy! Hope this is true. We would have to beat off a number of clubs but at least Arsenal have said that they are not interested. Think it is best to make an early call on Lukaku. Not sure about Martinez hanging on forever more, after the WC I see his price going only one way to be honest. Remy at 8m with Traore on loan (hopefully) and Kone in reserve would be a good front line for me.

I don't think we will have enough cash for both Remy and Lukaku so the more rumours that we are chasing Remy, the less we will sign Lukaku in my opinion.
I personally would prefer we went for Lukaku as he is younger and would have more sell on value should we ever want/need to get rid of him.

Didn't Wenger say it after he was pictured at the Arse game (guest of Sagna) I know this involves me taking a professional football manager at his word, which is awkward...... I wonder whether Arsenal will set their sights a bit higher ( particularly as they have a good striker in Giroud already, will they look to splash the cash big time a la Ozil on a new forward)?

Not for me, he seems to be somewhat of a stirrer, a disruptive element should I say.

He has seemed decent what bit I've seen of him on the highlights, but there again you need to see much more than highlights to get a true evaluation.

There seems to be a view on this thread that he may have a disruptive attitude.
If the guy can play I think we may overcome this.
RM is no fool and I think the promotion of big Dunc over Stubbs may be to create the good cop bad cop scenario.
We seem to have a happy dressing room at the moment, and don't think someone with a big ego will go down very well.

At the end of the day only one of the monied elite become champions. Assuming there's 5 or 6 of them, that's a high percentage of failure every year.

Obviously we would all love more money but I've come to terms with supporting a club I'm totally proud of. The key to my personal happiness at the moment is our fantastic manager. His plans for our club and overall style are giving me so much more hope than I had for the last decade and I'm loving it.

It would be great if we could get a new stadium and an investor is actually guaranteed an appreciating asset with that...as a side note, am I the only one that feels sick every time I see the Echo Arena?

The key though, hopefully to the next 10 years, is the right man in charge. Eventually that may get us the much needed investment in infrastructure because the highly subjective, high risk world of buying players and moulding an attractive, successful team is in good hands. I wouldn't swap Martinez for any other manager I can think of anywhere in the world. He's perfect for us and it's imperative we keep him, from both a footballing, and potential investor point of view.

Mike #10 John #11 it is hard to imagine a club paying say £4m above the release clause value esp if the clause was on a deadline.

Paul Ferry #779 - I think Fellaini's buy out window was time limited, and by deadline day it had expired. So Moyes couldn't invoke it as the buying price. Bill did a good job there.

You are right that Fellaini's clause was time limited. It was a sensible clause to put in his contract because it allowed us some time to find and acquire a replacement. So Bill, or his contract team, did do well on that one...but I think it was more a case of Moyes having a nightmare transfer window culminating in a panic buy.

I wanted Remy to last season. Want him for the next five!
