More Bony speculation

This Bony rumour is getting very tiresome.

We should've signed him last summer. Swansea took the risk of splashing £12 million on a player that was prolific in the Dutch league - and now that he has shown he can score goals for fun at an higher level, I don't think Swansea will sell only making a £3 million profit. Its going to take an offer in the region of 18-20 million before eyebrows are even raised at Swansea.

We need to find the Bony's and Benteke's of this world before they have established themselves in the PL.

For every Bony there is a Van Wolfswinkel on the continent. Beware of second season syndrome ie Jelavic.

Lukaku: two great seasons in the Prem and only 21 and built like a Chieftain tank... I know who I would be going for.

I agree Mark, when you think for the fee we paid for Kone and the loan fee for Lukaku, or add the price up for Anichebe and Jelavic both would have landed us Bony last summer. Personally can't see them letting him go for less than £20 mill.

I would be happy with either Bony or Lukaku (both even better!) but not sure we will get one of them never mind two.

What about Hernandez at Manure? That lad is still fairly young and definitely knows where the goal is.

If we were to sign every player we were linked to we would need the two buses Chelsea parked at Anfield to bring our mayday squads to away games.

Have to disagree with you James, think you'll find a lot of us would say Lukaku had an average to good season, went missing in a lot of games and was very inconsistent, on the other hand Bony did have a great season and is also built like a brick shithouse, it's a no brainer for me.

Any of them, including Hernandez, would suit me fine. Wouldn't pay a penny over £20m for any of them tbh.

Lambert might like to move back home. He's not the same street cred as others but is very efficient. May do a great job for us as I'm sure he would have been in the right places to finish off a lot of those fabulous balls going across the six yard box when others where waiting for it to be pulled back. More of a finisher than most but maybe not the athleticism.

I know what you mean, Tony, Lambert could do a job for us – at least as a squad player – but he's 32, which is a bit old for a striker. Pity, because he's a really good team player and a classy finisher.

(When I played, I could never pass the ball into the net. If I got a sniff of goal I effing well blasted it. Consequently, I admire strikers who can show composure in front of goal, like Lambert.)

I can't really understand why Lukaku gets as much stick as he does. OK he seems to drift out of games but look at the lasst few seasons for our leading goalscorers;

12-13 - Felli (12 goals)
11-12 - Jelly (11 goals)
10-11 - Saha/Becks (10 goals)
09-10 - Saha (15 goals)
08-09 - Cahill (9 goals)
07-08 - Yak (21 goals)
06-07 - Johnson (12 goals)

So Rom has scored more goals in a season (and part of that he was injured) than anyone in the last 7 years and only that great season where the Yak banged them in is any better!

He's also 21 and younger than all those above, if we can get him on loan again next season I'd be happy, how often have we cried out for a goalscorer, which he has proved (with WBA as well)?!

I think this rumour about Bony will drag on all pre-season but will come to nothing. He's unlikely to go to one of the top four teams but Swansea are likely to ask for more than we can afford. I could see Tottenham paying over the odds for him. The only chance we have is if he agitates for a move, but would we want that kind of player anyway.

I agree with those saying that Javier Hernandez would be a good signing. Wouldn't be cheap, but he is quality. At the age of 25 he might feel like its time to be the main man somewhere and not a super sub, especially as Man Utd have no European football next season. A different type of player to Lukaku. It would be great if we could sign Javier and get Lukaku on loan. Would give our attack real options.

What about Jordan Rhodes? Great goalscoring record over the past five years in the Championship but facing another year there with Blackburn.

While the other "a great season" and scored 16 league goals.

Just think what Lukaku might score if he had a great season too? I think it may be more than 16 goals.

I can't see us being able to afford either, so it's all academic.

I think Bony may well end up being as expensive as Lukaku in which case id prefer the known, younger quantity.

I'd like Hernandez though I wonder how good he really is? Perhaps he's more effective coming off the bench rather than as a reliable starter. Has he had a sustained period of starting at Manchester United? Also, would he be able to hold the ball up as we need when playing just one striker?

A definite Yes. Top player.

Gary, if you do your research properly you'll find that Bony scored 25 goals in all competitions and was easily the most important and best player at Swansea this season, I'd be made up if he signed for us.

For me Hernandez is too Naismithlike in that he doesnt have the physical weight or presence to lead the line but is a good partner.

IMO Bony is a better header of the ball than Lukaku and is a bit more mobile.

We don't have enough players at Everton. Ours is a skeleton squad. So Bony will fit in well.

Those saying we should have signed Bony last season hindsight is a wonderful thing. The Dutch league is notoriously difficult one to judge. Plenty if players have looked like world beaters there only to look distinctly average here.

A few good ones as well though David.

Let’s try and be honest men, we ain’t gonna have a shedload of money so we can’t really afford to buy Bony at top whack, and £20M is top whack!

Lukaku is a completely different story: he’s 20, he’s still improving, and he has the potential to go up to £35/40M.

If we’re gonna buy a Bony or a Benteke, we need to do the scouting and find our own version at around £10M; if not, we need to buy Lukaku.

Anyway, as I said, it is all academic – papers are full of both Arsenal and the RS coming in for Bony.

I still think that Lukaku has the potential to be a much better player – get big Dunc to teach him how to challenge for aerial balls, also extra work on his first touch and also finishing on his right side.

Gary, if you believe what the rags say then you will go mad. Some of the stuff they make up shows they have no scruples just, basically, lying to sell their garbage. I wouldn't take too seriously what they write.
