If Barry comes to play, it could be that Milner will come along. Everton are on the verge of great things and he could well win a Premier League Title with us next season as well as the FA Cup the Milk Cup and the Europa League. Then again, there is always the Redshite and he won't win anything with them gobshites.

He would be a great signing for us. An English player in the prime of his career, versatile, hard working and talented. I agree that we are unlikely to be able to afford his wages as other top teams will be after him too.

I think he'd be a brilliant signing, but I think his wages must be astronomical –– so probably a non-starter...

"Hardworking, versatile, great engine" — ?? Not the type of player that's going to unlock a Stoke City type defence when they come to Goodison and park the bus?

Doesn't fill me with excitement — especially at £10 million and astronomical wages!! I would be surprised if Martinez is looking for yet another player of this type.

In my opinion, Arteta has never been replaced; a playmaker is a must in the middle of the park as we have been using Osman and Pienaar for one half in each game for our creativity.

Come on, Roberto... One of the things that excited me about his arrival was the possibility of us signing some young technically gifted players from the Spanish leagues with his unique knowledge of that particular league.

Milner will have all the usual suspects after him, so that, alongside the fact he's English, will hugely inflate any fees.

I think we'd be a great fit for Milner. So he wants out of City because he's not getting enough starts? Well at Everton he would be a regular starter, he'd be at a top club where he can put himself in the frame for England selection, and he'd be a great influence on our younger players who are trying to break into the England side.

Don't write this one off completely yet.

He had trials for us before he signed for Leeds and I know he has a soft spot for Everton. That might change when we offer him £60k p/w less than his current contract... but it's worth a pop in my opinion.

I think Milner is a consistently good player and would do well for us. Can't see it happening, though. Too pricey on the wage front, as others have noted.

Effectively, City's high wages ensure that when they've finished with a player he is virtually unemployable. You only have to think of Wayne Bridge..

Looks like Barry is probably off to Arsenal as well, given reports of a few minutes ago. Still paper-talk but £80k a week vs our £50k seems it might swing it for Arsenal. Oh, and the Champions League.

Can't see the Milner thing happening either, given that Arsenal and the RS are after him. Mind you, I would doubt if Arsenal would buy both Barry and Milner so you never know.

There has been the odd sniff of Arteta falling out with Arsenal. Its not impossible that he could return.

I'm with Andrew Hawes on this one. I can see the lad's qualities but remain underwhelmed by him and I am not convinced you couldn't find someone better overall for less than he is likely to cost.

Same goes for an Arteta return. I haven't taken his recent antics to heart but I don't think he represents the future of the club and would want us to look elsewhere unless he was dirt cheap and desperate to impress.

I wouldn't take Arteta back anyway. A deep lying midfielder who can't tackle, has no pace and a passing range of 8 yards...sideways only!

Neither Barry nor Milner are the type of players we should be in for in my opinion. Overinflated fees and wages and the wrong side of 25.

In addition RM has a committed policy to drive down average age of the squad and the transfer strategy for Everton, such as it is, is to buy players - whether bargain basement, or big fees - with potential to develop into a better sell on value. Milner would be a depreciating and overpriced capital investment so I don't see this: Harry Redknapp yes, RM no. As an aside, this policy is by far the strongest and most successful policy of EFC, both on and off the pitch.

I don't see this is as any more than lazy journalism personally.
