Surprise – Everton want Lukaku

Probably just pie in the sky yet far better than others about injury-prone has-beens or even never-has-beens..

Can't we just stop hearing the rumours on Lukaku to Everton at least for a while.

I would love him back here but it ain't going to happen and if he has anything like a good World Cup then it is certainly not happening.

He probably will have a decent tournament because he does quite well in the International game.

His goal record even with us and West Brom in his first two full season's has also been very impressive.

I am convinced the with a full pre-season at Everton and starting the season on the opening day in August then Lukaku would comfortably be the 18-20 goal striker we are wishing for.

Sadly we most likely won't see this fine young player in the Everton shirt again and I know that next season wherever he is banging goals in I will certainly have a rueful regretful sigh, even more so if scoring enough goals returns as our own Achilles Heel again.

Apparently Fraizer Campbell has a release clause of £800k. I think he’s useful – a Marcus Bent type of player. Perhaps we’ve moved on but I would sign him for that fee.

The likes of Fraizer Campbell, Danny Graham and Grant Holt all belong in the Championship. If we want a striker that is going to move the club forwards, we will have to spend big.

Sadly Peter, he is much more likely the type of player, and fee, that Everton will be dealing with once again. The Redshite are about to sign their 3rd new player already, yet we will play the waiting game until August 31st. I know it isn't anywhere near the time to be panicking, but this is what Everton do to us.

Fraizer Campbell is a signing that Everton would have expected to make around about the time we did sign Marcus Bent.

That was when Everton Football Club had just finished off the back if a disgraced season with a lowest ever points total and final league place of 17th, we were widely expected to be relegated the following season and the likes of Marcus Bent were all we could have expected to attract here.

Surely now Everton are better placed to attract and sign better class than journeymen??

If not then Bill and the board are nothing short of a complete disgrace to the name of the Club.

We need more than one striker, and if we don’t get Traore, I would quite happily get Fraizer Campbell as a squad player. Can score goals at this level, still got potential and of course English.

As a main striker, we need a Lukaku or someone in a similar ilk.

I've said before that I'll be very, very surprised if we get Lukaku permanently. Hope Bob does not wait around too long for him to decide to go to Atletico or elsewhere.

I think Fraizer Campbell is a decent shout. Obviously he would not be first choice striker but we only really have Kone at the moment as a specialist striker and need 3 at least for next season. Campbell is good value at that price but will likely end up with Leicester or similar.

Why is everyone worried? Martinez signed 7 players last year and still made a profit.

The Shite buying 3 players too youngsters that no-one knows if they will make the grade and for £26 Million and Lambert, not awe-inspiring... Brenda has spent a lot of money and only one player has done well and he plays number 9 for England. I don't think we have to worry about them lot, do we?

Fraizer Campbell is a big no. We will sign some class in the summer, just have to wait and STOP FUCKING MOANING. It's get boring and we are only at the start of June! Enjoy the World Cup first guys.

He's been on the scene year's, why did he never fulfil his potential at Sunderland then?

To say he can score goals at this level is not enough, we need players who can score enough goals to have us in the hunt for the top 4 again.

If we start signing journeymen then you get journeymen results.

We have Naismith as the back up striker who is capable of scoring 9-10 goals plus Kone as back up and perhaps the big Traore as back up too again on loan (can see that coming off)

What we need is a top quality striker to score 20 goals.

No thanks to Frazer Campbell. Not good enough. However Lukaku is, but he probably has his pick of top Champions League clubs as it appears Chelski don't need him in the light of the Costa signing.

Fraizer Campbell? now we are scraping the barrel – we have moved on from players like that. We want players to get us into the Champions League – not your average Championship player! Come on, lads, get in the real world. We all know Bobby won't go down that route – he wants better for Everton.

I thought there would be a lot of criticism on that shout. That said, we have Naismith and Kone at present. Naismith I don't see as a player who can lead the line by himself. Kone I have my doubts if he will be fit and also have doubts about his ability – I was amazed how bad he looked.

We ran out of gas in games particularly away from home. People mentioning Traore on loan – perhaps unfair as I know even less about him than Kone but the game I watched him (& he scored) I was amazed how bad he was. I also remember Lescott first game, at Goodison, came on as left back and looked awful so again I may be wrong and beat come good

All I can say is that Campbell looked decent against us (and we have good back 4) in a shit side when playing for Cardiff and for £800k for us who don't spend money would seem like money v well spent to me. I don't mean as first choice but I would probably have him over Jelavic who we sold for £7-5m!

Mike 973 you say get in the real world – the world I'm in is since Martinez took over be has a net spend of around minus £20m and reduced the wages dramatically and follows Moyes who had a net spend of £1m per season.

IMO buying big makes sense: firstly, you get a better class of player and secondly, you can sell them on for profit. It would be interesting to see how much Rat Boy & Dean's cousin's worth, plus they nearly won the Redshite the league and their goals got them into the Champions League.

Mourinho's no mug; if he sees something wrong with Romelu's attitude or make-up that he doesn't like, I'd be inclined to take note and stay clear of paying big money for the big guy. Better to forget all about him and find another player who will be committed to Everton's cause.

Patrick, I thought Mourinho's main beef with Romelu is/was his attitude. Right after the transfer, most of the articles I saw were about what was said between them and who was telling the truth.

Agree with David. We will be taking a massive backwards step if we don't bring in Barry and Lukaku, whilst the Sky shower will all strengthen. Athletic paid £25m odd for Torres and doubled their money, and will easily do the same with The Rodent.

Lukaku is just 21 and developed properly will be a very good striker. If we sign him now for £20/25m he can pick where he wants to go at 25 and we will profit from that. If the fucking board can't see that, they should fuck off but we all know how likely that is. If I see Lukaku going anywhere else other than a CL club for less than £25m, then I'll be very, well angry.

Trying to sign Lukaku has to be the most obvious, least controversial decision Everton have had to make in the last...well, who knows how long, and there are still some people trying to say we shouldn't sign him. Unbelievable.

Not only should we sign him, and move Heaven and Earth to do it, but we still haven't got a hope in hell of pulling it off anyway because he'll go to a more highly regarded club who are in the Champions League and be paid wages we wouldn't have been able to afford. Any rumours of players signing are just that rumours, until I see the picture of them in the Main Stand with the scarf above their head or at Fich Farm showing off the new shirt, then I regard it as bollox.

A "fake rumour" is a rumour that's a fake Phil. I hope that makes it clear for you. I hope we can finally buy Lukaku. He could be the catalyst for great things like when we got Andy Grey in the 80's.

And in all seriousness, I've just watched the highlights on the OS of the Arsenal and Liverpool games at The Old Lady and there is no other striker I can imagine, given our budget, scoring those goals.

I have to admit to considering all rumours to be fake until confirmed to be the truth, at which point they're no longer rumours.

I can see Suarez signing for Real Madrid for an obscene transfer fee (£70 ~80 Million easy) and the RS then buying 2-3 good strikers. I would hate to see Lukaku in a red shirt!

Realistically for us, if we could sign two of the following: Benteke, Welbeck, Hernandez, Jay Rodriguez, Wilfred Bony – that would be good enough for me if we emptied all our transfer kitty on these two...

Buying big Rom is a no-lose situation. If this kid stays free from serious injury, he will be worth double by the time he is 25.
He has every attribute of a top striker and talk of Campbell and Ince is ridiculous. Ince was crap and totally over-shadowed by Garbutt and Townsend in the recent Under-21 international.

We should be looking to try for Lukaku, Townsend, Lallana etc etc if we are really being ambitious. Ince is not improving and looks like Beckford to me.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet. But I can see him possible going to Arsenal. Especially if he has a good World Cup.

Yes, he looked brilliant at times last season... but, at other times, he couldn't have trapped a mouse with a ton of cheese. A long way to go before he's the complete striker, in my opinion.

It amazes me how many people think we should've spent £4 million signing the 31-year-old Lambert, when there was so much moaning when we signed the 29-year-old Kone for £6 million.

Well, Lambert scored 13 PL goals last season.... the same total Kone achieved season before last.
