Fresh reports claim that Everton are confident of landing Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis, with Dominic King in the Daily Mail suggesting that a deal could be concluded "within 48 hours".

Sky Italia, meanwhile, claim that Juventus have pulled out of the race to sign Lukaku after Everton agreed an £18m deal with Chelsea for the striker. The Italian giants are reportedly close to signing Alvaro Morata in any case who was their first-choice target this summer according to sources.

The Mail report suggests somewhat cryptically that "extensive preparations have been made" for the Belgian's return to the club and King, formerly of the Liverpool Echo, followed the publication of the report online with a similar tweet:

Increasing confidence that @Everton will complete a deal for Romelu Lukaku: looking like extensive preparations been made for his arrival.

In The Telegraph, meanwhile, Chris Bascombe also suggests that Roberto Martinez is confident that the club have "made a breakthrough" on Lukaku and hope to agree terms with the 21-year-old "in the next few days". He also raises another loan move as an option but the player has effectively ruled that option out while Chelsea are unlikely to sanction that unless he signs a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Liverpool Echo have also weighed in backing up the "confidence" line from insiders that the Blues will be able to persuade Lukaku to join.

Lukaku is currently on holiday after his World Cup exploits with Belgium where he is mulling over his future. Wolfsburg and Tottenham are the two clubs most often touted as being in competition with the Blues for Lukaku. Mooted interest from Atletico Madrid and Juventus has waned in the wake of their respective moves for Mario Mandzukic and Morata.
