Everton in talks with Eto'o

Media speculation linking Samuel Eto'o and Danny Welbeck with a move to Everton is not abating.

The Blues are reportedly up against an offer from Qatar as they bid to land the Cameroon striker on a free transfer while Welbeck could be available on a season-long loan.

The Mirror claim that Everton are in talks with Eto'o who was released by Chelsea at the end of last season after scoring 9 times for them and had been in discussions with Liverpool.

With Brendan Rogers on the verge of landing Mario Balotelli, the reds are believed to have dropped their interest in Eto'o who, it is now claimed, has a £7m offer on the table to finish his career in the Middle East.

Eto'o was reportedly after a two year, £100,000-a-week contract at Anfield, terms that would fall outside of Everton's existing pay structure. And Roberto Martinez appeared to tacitly acknowledge interest in both players in comments attributed to him in another Mirror report:

"There's a lot of money involved in those two [Welbeck and Eto'o],” he said. “At the moment, if I'm honest with you, I'm looking at all the options."

Update Italian-based journalists Gianluca di Marzio and Alfredo Pedulla are both now reporting that Everton have come to an agreement with Eto'o over a two-year contract and that the 33 year-old will undergo a medical tomorrow.
