Silly season underway with fresh Barkley story
The opening of the January transfer window and the usual Sunday tabloid nonsense combine this weekend with Rob Shepherd peddling a yarn about Manchester City bidding up to £60m for Ross Barkley. Not long after suggesting that the Blues will replace Roberto Martinez if the team's results don't pick up, the journeyman journo claims that Everton will listen to offers starting at £45m for the 21 year-old who signed a new contract in the summer.
He says the bidding for Barkley could go as high as the £60m that was being bandied about with equally paltry substance just a few months ago.
