Everton move for Norwegian goalkeeper

Everton could move to sign a former triallist in the form of Norwegian international goalkeeper à˜rjan Nyland.

ESPN, a source not normally associated with the standard transfer-window speculation, claims from their sources that Roberto Martinez "is nearing a deal" for the 24 year-old as he seeks cover for Tim Howard and Joel Robles.

Nyland spent time training at Finch Farm in December 2008 as a highly-rated teenager and has apparently been scouted by the Blues for some time. The report suggests that Molde would want around £3m for the 6' 4" player who was named player of the tournament in the Under-21 European Championships two years ago, beating out David de Gea for the accolade. He is now a full Norway international with 10 caps to his name.

Martinez has hinted that he is looking at a younger, long-term acquisition rather than making a goalkeeping signing just for the sake of it and Nyland, a rumoured target of Manchester United a couple of months ago, could fit the bill.

Nyland was also linked with a move to Cardiff City a year ago when his former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge of the Bluebirds and he admitted then that it would be hard to turn any offer from them down.

"Cardiff [are] in the Premier League. I do not really need to say more than that," he told Romsdals Budstikke at the time.
