MLS clubs monitor Howard

Tim Howard is being eyed as a potential marquee signing by three Major League Soccer clubs as they plan their squad-building for next season.

The 35 year-old ruled out ever playing in his native league when he put pen to paper on a four-year contract extension with Everton last summer.

However, poor form this term and Roberto Martinez's search for long-term cover for the USA international could see him leave earlier than planned.

Whether or not that is one of New York City, Toronto or LA Galaxy as the Mail suggest remains to be seen but Howard would be a big draw based on his exploits at last year's World Cup.

The same report claims that Martinez has whittled his shortlist of candidates down to three having "considered" Molde's Orjan Nyland and Cardiff City's David Marshall.
