Everton's interest in striker played down
Roberto Martinez is "understood" to be looking for striking reinforcements this summer but is unlikely to make a move for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin according to local media. The 25-year-old forward, who has 17 goals to his name for the relegated side this season, is expected to be snapped up by a Premier League club when the transfer window opens.
The Liverpool Echo claim, however, that Everton are unlikely to be one of them.
The same report suggests that Martinez is prioritising a centre half and a midfield "playmaker", as well as following up his interest in Tom Cleverley who will be available on a free transfer.
A move by the Spaniard to take Cleverley on loan last summer fell through and he joined Aston Villa for the season from Manchester United instead.
In the meantime, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have emerged as somewhat surprising suitors following the 24 year-old's recent uptick in form under new Villains boss Tim Sherwood.
