Distin may get farewell after all
Roberto Martinez is facing pressure from "the hierachy" at Everton to give Sylvain Distin the opportunity to end his time at the club with some involvement in this weekend's finale against Tottenham. The Frenchman has been frozen out of the first-team at Goodison Park since February and, having apparently not spoken with Martinez in that time, faced the prospect of being "ushered out the back door," as local journalist David Prentice recently put it, when his contract expires this summer.
Martinez told reporters last week that would prefer to look to the future by including younger players on the bench.
Both The Guardian and The Mirror report, however, that "senior figures" at the club feel that after six years and over 200 appearances for Everton, the 37-year-old deserves a more fitting send-off and may request a re-think by the manager.
