Buy-back clause the last wrinkle in Deulofeu deal

19/06/2015  Comments (0)  jump
Gerard Deulofeu's permanent move from Barcelona to Everton is inching closer, with reports now indicating that the Catalonia club have agreed to sell him to the Blues for 6m, despite receiving higher offers from elsewhere.

Barça appear to be honouring the 21-year-old's wishes to return to Goodison Park rather than go out on loan again or sign for another club, a decision likely influenced by the desire to keep the option of Deulofeu returning to the Nou Camp in three or four years' time if he fulfills his potential in the Premier League.

David Vilajoana, the likely next vice president of the Blaugrana, lent credence to the belief that the transfer is close when saying, "a talented player in Deulofeu is about to move to Everton and that confirms the failure of the current [Barcelona] model."

Mundo Deportivo in Spain are reporting, however, that the terms of the buy-back clause still need to be ironed out before the deal can be ratified. Barcelona want a 12m, three-year option while Everton are insisting on two.

The player, meanwhile, is on holiday this week and there are unconfirmed rumours that he could fly to Merseyside this weekend to undergo a medical on Sunday ahead of possibly inking a contract on Monday.
