The striker elected against signing a new deal with the Sky Blues despite manager Tony Mowbray's assurances that he would get a crack at the first team starting in pre-season and the Telegraph "understands" that Sambou will join the Toffees at the end of this season.
“[The player and his representative] have taken up that option not to sign after we made a pretty good offer beyond what we might have offered normal scholars," Mowbray said. "He's a young boy with huge potential and yet they want to go down another route.”
The 18-year-old has 25 goals this season for Coventry's U18s in the league and FA Youth Cup and also for their Under-21s.
Everton apparently face competition from Newcastle United for Sambou, however, so it's not a foregone conclusion that he'll end up on Merseyside, although the Toffees are thought to be favourites to land him.
