Lucien Favre under consideration to replace Martinez?

11/05/2016  28 Comments  [Jump to last]
Lucien Favre is being mentioned in his native Switzerland as a potential candidate to replace Roberto Martinez.

The former Borussia Moenchengladbach manager was referenced in a tweet by Andreas Bà¶ni of Swiss outlet Blick:

"Exciting: Lucien Favre is an option as the new coach of Everton be #Everton #Gladbach"

Favre attracted much attention for the manner in which he reversed the fortunes of Moenchengladbach between 2011 and 2015, taking them from rock bottom of the Bundesliga when he took over to Champions League qualification a year ago.

He resigned as manager in September last year after losing all five of the first league games of the 2015-16 season. As such, he is currently unemployed.

Do me a Favre! We can't have a manager whose Christian name is Lucien "We're on the march with Lucy's army" doesn't quite cut it does it?

Checking betting odds daily and M O'Neil favourite this morn 2/1 and checked before now drifted right out and M Hughes now 2/1................. Hoping this us because they just don't have a clue. Pellegrini on the drift now. Koeman and steady 4/1. Fingers crossed for the dutchman.

He is/was a good manager with Mochengladbach. He plays exactly like Roberto doesn't. He likes a tight organized defense, pressing, then win possession and fly up the field on the counter-attack. Usually a 4-4-2 with 2 defensive mids and attackers with pace.

I read that he likes to deploy a defensive style that lures teams into thinking there are openings in certain areas, when in reality it's more of a trap. He gave Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund headaches at times. His teams are very fit, and he isn't afraid to use youth. Mostly because he had to - Bayern and etc would often pick off his good players. His walking away from a CL team is a concern though. I've heard some things about him being a sort of control freak, but then again aren't a lot of managers?

Decent manager though sacked by both his last two clubs in Germany in Hertha and Borussia M (though he did do good work for both of them- gratitude eh?).

Definitely scraping the barrel. Though he does have a decent record in Germany. But he is not the top manager we are looking for.
This is getting boring now. Let's just get rid of Roberto tonight or tomorrow. That would be a start.

Excellent choice. Good with youngsters and can adapt his tactics during games.

He didn't get sacked at Mochengladbach...he resigned (much worse). The club didn't accept his resignation, but he walked away anyhow.

He is a connoisseur pick. Good coach, but probably not the big splash to get player's attention. Might be the second or third option. But not a bad option in my opinion.

Nice one Eddie (12), I did read Frank de Boer said he wants to manage EFC or Valencia! Would be a great choice!

So what's the score going to be tonight guys? I like big Sam as he's from Lancs (and I am) & I hate Newcastle, so go Defoe. Good shout for the England squad btw, as Woy has told Carroll he ain't going!

Good manager like the way his teams play. No problem with him taking over.

Described as a German Simeone. This article was quite interesting about his tactics. Unlike the current man it sounds like he has some...

Perhaps we wouldn't be looking for a new boss if Roberto had have read and absorbed some of Lucille Ball's thoughts.

"In life, all good things come hard, but wisdom is the hardest to come by." "Luck? I don't know anything about luck. I've never banked on it and I'm afraid of people who do. Luck to me is something else: Hard work and realizing what is opportunity and what isn't."

Would be a slightly underwhelming left field appointment, but more forward thinking than O'Neill and Hughes.

While a disciplinarian is needed it would be kinda worrying if this guy is at the Felix Magath level of being controlling. Magath is the first name I think of when control freak manager and the Bundesliga are put together.

Not everyone's top choice but a pretty decent choice. As previously said an outsider top 5 candidate but better than what we currently have.

It's been proven in this league if you keep it organised and play at a good tempo then get your flair players to produce you'll do well.

A manager who can make the players actually spark will do for me.

Wow,

He is the Swiss equivalent to Howe, walking away from a team at a time that puts the team at a huge disadvantage. What has he won in anything other than the Swiss League which is quite weak? Just when I didn't think it was possible to find someone who is more underwhelming than De Boer from a foreign league, bam, there he is.

Didn't Moyes come in fourth with the 8th lowest wage bill in the EPL ? I thought we were looking for more than Moyes, Hughes, and Howe? Other than being Swiss, how is he better?

Please folks, elevate the sights, we are aiming too low to hit the targets we need.

Good option. Better than some of the dross we've been linked with recently.
