Koeman gives Everton the edge in chase for Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk's switch to the agency that represents Ronald Koeman is being seen as a big advantage in Everton's reported interest in the Dutch defender.

Van Dijk only joined Southampton last year and signed a six-year contract with the south coast club but he is already being talked about in terms of moving on, possibly as early as January.

His former boss Koeman has been credited with serious interest in re-signing his compatriot and The Mirror suggest that sources in the Netherlands believe that Goodison Park is the most likely destination for Van Dijk despite interest from the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool.

And Van Dijk's move to the London-based Wasserman Group who represent Koeman is held up as another boon to the Blues' hopes of signing him.

A reunion between the Dutch international and Koeman could cost Everton as much as £25m, though, given the interim inflation of the transfer market, the player's long contract and the fact that he has settled quickly into the Premier League.
