Everton linked with Goetze

| Thursday, 14 June 2018 35comments  |  Jump to last
Everton, Arsenal, West Ham, Marseille and Valencia are all said to be interested in signing Germany's 2014 World Cup hero, Mario Goetze.

Sky Sports sources claim that the Blues are tracking the potential availability of the 26-year-old who currently plies his trade with Borussia Dortmund.

If Stoke could sign Bojan and Shaqiri, why can't we sign Goetze?

Fantastic talent last time I looked, but that was a few years ago. Anyone got the recent gen?

Hasn’t he got serious health issues? Last I heard, he has serious fatigue problems that made a professional football career impossible. How’s he going to fit in with a hard running side under Silva?

He's got/had myopathy I believe Steve.

Great, myopathy with compliment apathy (Schneiderlin).

I've never heard of this muscular condition but it sounds like something he's going to have for life. I'd stay clear, no matter how prodigious his talent once was. Goetze is known as the chubby fairy. His weight issues probably have something to do with this underlying condition. Sounds like he could be another Thomas Brolin if he moved to the Prem.

That was diagnosed back in early 2017. He played and started almost every match for Dortmund last season.

Good post Phil. That one made me laugh. Apparently Schneiderlin might be getting a reprieve under Silva.

Martial for me and he wants to leave.

David, he missed 11 matches last season, 23 appearances, 19 of them were starts. Of the 19 games he started, only 9 times he lasted the full 90 minutes. He scored just two goals and had 4 assists. The majority of those missed games were due to an ankle injury though. I'm only going off raw statistics here, so no idea if he has recovered or not, it sounds like something that would be with you for life. Maybe someone knows a bit more about the condition. I'd be reluctant to hand the lad a £200k a week, 5 year deal, which is no doubt what his agent will be after.

Short Sighted if it was ic instead of athy are there no fit players available.

Right Steve, he played in 23 league matches, starting 19. He also played in 5 Champions League matches, starting 4 of them, as well as 4 Europa League matches.

Not making any statement about wanting to sign him or anything. Just that the health issue you referenced did not end his professional career, since he went on to play in 32 matches last season after he was diagnosed the prior season.

In my view, the World Cup goal aside, the 4 years since, the fella has suffered fitness and health issues.

I hope he gets well but no way could we consider any such player with such a long standing history of health and very low game time.

His weight issues ARE a direct result of his illness btw.

Don't think there's a cure, only treatment which can alleviate symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.

Not for me. I don't want another attacking midfielder, without first sorting out the defence... Number 10 is probably the last position that we need to fix...
His girlfriend, Ann Kathryn, however...

Would be a massive wage.

Would like to see us go all out for Martial. Very unlikely, but there is a world class striker there. Him down the middle, with Walcott and Lookman or Calvert-Lewin beside him. Tosun as back Plan B on the bench.

That would get goals.

Can’t see this one happening. We can’t afford to be signing players on massive wages with health risks attached. There are better and wiser alternatives.

Big risks here on a player who has not looked top class for a while now.

A good to great player, who because of medical issues, which by all accounts, have little chance of subsiding, would also demand top wages (presumably) is one we should swerve, in my humble opinion.

I thought the idea was to reduce the wage bill, as well as the over populated squad, now here we are getting linked to more of the same.

As a German Evertonian, I would really like signing a German player for us. But Goetze has not the quality anymore than in former times.

Up until 3 or 4 years ago, it would be a top recruitment, but not now.

Hi Björn, are there any particular German players you think might be available and worthwhile signings for Everton? What’s your opinion of Plattenhardt?

Like Barry, I'd love us to go for someone like Martial. An up-and-coming Man Utd player, not a has-been like we usually buy from them.
Victor Yu

Why would Martial come when there are many big clubs looking to sign him already?
Hugh Jenkins

Victor (22) We are hoping that the M&M "Dream Ticket" is going to be the thing that makes us more attractive to this type of player, than we were previously.

Time will tell?

As a blue I'd love to see Götze across the park.. back with his mentor of BVB days. He's slow, has an attitude and not up to PL pace. There is a reason he wasn't selected for the world cup. Talent definitely, but so do a lot of others who haven't made it.

Also being linked with Arsenal and West Ham. I don't think there is any mileage in this one.

Just no thank you.

We don't need an aging player with health issues.

Simon Smith

He's just turned 26, Jamie – hardly old. But I suppose even 18-year-olds are ageing!

I see I'm not alone in thinking we should go for Martial. If we want to compete with the big time, then surely that's the sort of player we need? Phil Neville aside, I'm sick of us signing duds from the manure and them taking our good players.
Björn Kausemann

Answer to Mike. You know Germany is a great football nation, so there are a lot of interesting players for us. Plattenhardt would be a good recruitment.
But I would prefer Vogt of Hoffenheim. He is a center back. But he has contract and Bayern München is interested too. So normaly we've got no chance to sign him.

Never mind about Goetze what about the guy we were linked with recently, a certain Mr Lozano? What a player: fast, tricky and with a good shot. Time for Mr Brands to have a chat with his old club methinks.

Today's main rumours:

Aleksandr Dragovic – was on loan for Leicester last season but barely played. He is owned by Bayer Leverkusen. He is a centre-back. I can't pretend to know too much about him. I don't recall him for Leicester. He is 6'-0" so not particularly tall. The Echo mentions we want experience alongside Keane, but isn't that what Jagielka is for?

Niclas Füllkrug – striker with Hannover. Tall lad at 6'-2" and has decent goal statistics but hardly what you would call prolific. Don't know why we'd need a big strong tall striker if we have Calvert-Lewin. If we are going to sign a striker, we need someone with pace and who is prolific, so as to give us another option.

Tony Everan
33 Posted 18/06/2018 at 16:06:11
Dragovic may be using us to get an extra £20k per week.

Wes Morgan bumped him out of Leicester's team.

I don't know enough about him to have an informed opinion, but based on the above fact I would be surprised if he has the quality we are hoping for.

Sam Hoare
34 Posted 18/06/2018 at 16:15:53
Dragovic is a pretty decent player. He did well when he got a shot at Leicester and many of their fans berated Puel for putting Morgan back in for him.

As Tony said he’s probably just using this as a bargaining tool to drive up his wages at Leicester who are keen to buy him but if we were interested in him I reckon he’d do a decent job.

Brian Williams

Seeminy Dragovic was the player Leicester supporters voted, in a poll, that they wanted the most during this transfer window.
