Everton U21s 2 - 4 Nottm Forest U21s

Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti both got crucial game-time for the young Blues but Everton U21s collapsed against Nottingham Forest at Finch Farm on Friday afternoon.

Broja played 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Monday evening in the Premier League Cup.

Broja and Chermiti had some early touches but Frest came more and more into the game, taking the lead when gifted possession by Everton. And the visitors went further ahead, with George Pickford sustaining an injury that required his substitution by Fraser Barnsley in the Everton goal after the break.

Everton gave the ball away for the umpteenth time and the Forest centre-forward got his hat-trick while they then got an easy 4th goal before the hour mark, when Luke Butterfield got one back following up on the rebound after Chermiti hit his shot straight at the Forest keeper.

Charlie Whitaker was next to benefit as Broja's low shot was pushed out in his direction.

Chermiti and then Broja were substituted in the second half.

Everton U21s:  G Pickford (52' Barnsley), Dixon, Butler (46' Tierney), Moonan [Y:28'], Samuels-Smith, Butterfield, Heath, Bates (63' J Patterson), Broja (71' Beaumont-Clark), Chermiti (64' Benjamin), Whitaker.

Subs all Used.

Michael, the U21’s are at home this afternoon playing Nottm Forest at Finch Farm, not sure we will be able to see it — are you?

The U18s play Liverpool U18s tomorrow… doubt we will get a glimpse of that either!

Our beloved club don't believe in giving us proper video controls... and the 'Save Video As…' menu option is greyed out by them.

There must be video capture software that I could use??? Or is that illegal and immoral, with a tendency to make one fat?

I wouldn’t know a proper video control if it hit me. The picture and sound on the website is very good.

Alright John, I thought I was watching this all on my tod.

It's a fabulous game so far, end to end with great chances... so you're in charge. I'm going out to clean up leaves.

Game became a bit disjointed before play was stopped in the 17th minute because someone was taken ill. Turned out to be the 4th official who is now in an ambulance.

Game now carrying on without a 4th official.

Halfway through the first half with our lads struggling to gain and retain possession. Forest look much stronger going forward, getting into our box more often than we would like.

Forest 1-0. Poor back pass by an Everton player, think it was Butterfield, straight to a Forest player who slotted.

Forest took the lead on 27 minutes after we lost possession in midfield. No more than they deserved. Since the opening minutes we have hardly been in the game. Broja and Chermiti starved of the ball.

Hard to believe we can be so careless with possession.
Rob Halligan
13 Posted 29/11/2024 at 15:44:29
Yep, continually giving it away. Looks like Broja is getting really frustrated due to the lack of balls into him, as he seems to be dropping deep in order to get the ball.

Missed the Forest second goal due to typing that last post. 😡😡

Poor defending from a free kick, Rob. Forest got round the back and the scorer Joseph Gardner gets his second in front of goal six minutes before the interval.

2-0 half time. George Pickford, the Everton keeper, carted off, literally with an injury.

First half ends. 2-0 to Forest. Playing two up top and two in midfield obviously isn’t working.

Forest 3-0. Gardner hat trick. With over 35 minutes left. Yet again we gift possession.

Forest 4-0. Embarrassingly easy.

This is abysmal. The only ones inspired by Broja and Chermiti getting a good long run out are the Forest crew.

Everton That!

1-4 bit of dignity back

Michael, Dyche was seen giving instructions to Chermiti in the first half. It all went downhill from that moment onwards.

2-4. Whittaker converts rebound after keeper saved a good shot from Broja. Game on?

Similar to the first goal, John, only the shot was by Chermiti.

We have looked much better since the substitutions.

Senior players like Broja and Chermiti making their tentative return to action often disrupt the chemistry in a young team.

Much better effort once Broja and Chermiti went off.

I don't think Broja broke sweat.

It’s 2-4 final score. Good last half hour from the Blues.

None of them are anywhere near Premier League ready quite obvious.

What the hell have we done to our Academy?

I couldn’t get on to the stream again! This time it was my fault I’ve been out all afternoon so I didn’t try and get it on.

What did you make of Paul Tait Michael? Did he impress you? More importantly did his system impress you? It never impresses me but that could be down to the players that come through the Academy, did Charlie Whittaker do anything for you? What about Benjamin when he came on or did have better fun clearing your leaves up? What a bleedin’ life we Everton fans have following the fortunes of the club we love.

Ps I think John Raftery did a wonderful job standing in for you, well done John, Michael will reward you soon I think! Me and Brent Stephens are still waiting for our reward though unless Brent is getting his and saying nothing!

Nottm Forest were miles better than us, both technically and tactically. It really does make you wonder what the hell is going on within the Academy?

We are bereft of any talent at all, our midfield two were slow and ponderous and our back 4 continually giving the ball away through lack of options in front of them.

Broja and Chermiti would have never had scored in a million years, other than Chermiti's one chance after only 40 seconds. It went downhill from there.

We sit so deep, back 4 and midfield two, leaving huge gaps to our forwards… Is it Dyche forcing these tactics? Is it Thelwell? but it doesn't work and is bloody awful to watch.

Our one shining light was Charlie Whitaker who's played well all this season as a No 10, but today he was pushed out wide left to accommodate Broja and Chermiti. He moved inside later in the game after substitutions and played well and scored.

I really don't know if the club has any football philosophy in terms of recruitment, tactics, clear paths for talented lads (if any !!).

Anyway, good luck to Forest and their new manager, they look like a team and club wanting to produce attractive attacking football. Wish we were!!
