Everton Women have officially announced that Aurora Galli and Lucy Hope have signed new one-year deals with the club, extending their stay with the Blues until June 2026.

“I am delighted Yaya and Lucy have signed new contracts with us,” head coach Brian Sorensen told the club website.

Midfielder Galli joined Everton from Juventus Women in 2021 and became the first Italian to play in the Women’s Super League. The 28-year-old scored her first league goal for the club against Aston Villa in March 2022.

Galli spent almost the entirety of last season out injured after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on the opening day. She worked relentlessly with the medical staff and recovered in time to make her appearance off the bench in the Blues’ final game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

“I am very happy for Yaya. She started last season with a cruel injury but worked non-stop towards her goal of returning to the pitch before the season ended,” Sorensen continued.

“I was so proud to see her come on against Spurs. Her comeback has been inspirational. I am now looking forward to seeing her in action during the upcoming season where she can continue to be an important part of our squad.

Meanwhile, Lucy Hope joined Everton from Bristol City in 2019 and started in every single game in her debut campaign. She has also scored several important goals over the years, including a Merseyside derby winner in 2019, the equaliser in the Toffees’ memorable 2-1 win against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and the opener in Brian Sorensen’s side’s victory over title-chasing Manchester City last season.

On Monday, Hope announced that she’s pregnant and the midfielder will be supported by Everton’s medical staff in the coming months as she continues light training before taking time off for the birth of her child.

“Everyone at Everton sends warm congratulations to Lucy and her partner ahead of the new addition to the Blues family,” said Sorensen.

“Although Lucy will not be involved on the pitch for a large part of next season, she is a role model and top professional off it. Her leadership qualities and experience will continue to be crucial to our progression and we know the quality she offers us when she is ready to play again.”
