You may have noticed more and more articles with Harry Diamond in the tagline. Harry is no stranger when it comes to contributing to football websites, having been behind one called The Football Faithful that tries to accomplish the mammoth task of covering all angles of football news and ensuring there’s enjoyable content for all types of football fans.

Harry asked me if I would do the 'Everton Fan' bit for his current series of Premier League previews, where I provide answers to his probing questions about the upcoming season from an Everton perspective.   Well, really it's more my perspective, as I would never claim to be representative of Everton fans… mainly because we find it pretty hard to agree with each other on anything!

I tried to be both balanced and honest with my responses, in consideration of the wider audience he is targeting at The Football Faithful… however, I'm not sure I succeeded.

I was listening to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast a couple of days ago, and 2 out of the 4 participants (Barry Glendeming and another dude whom I didn’t recognise) had Everton to go down ! That got me pretty depressed. Surely they are talking through their hat?

Got me thinking… is David Moyes the answer long term?
Will he last this season? (If results don’t go our way and we are languishing near the relegation zone)
Where can Everton realistically finish?
We think that the players we have and the players we have signed are super good, but how do they really compare with the top teams?
Assuming we sign a right winger, or at least a right sided midfielder (Dibling), and a high quality RB before the transfer window, do we have a good enough team?

As a born optimist, I think we will fine provided we are not particularly unlucky with injuries, and our new signings start contributing quickly.

My predictions for this season: Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Everton (10th), Brighton, Westham, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Fulham, Wolves, Brentford, Leeds, Burnley.
Barry will be top scorer with 12 goals
Grealish will have 8 goals + 10 assists
Ndiaye, Alcaraz, McNeil and Dibling will each score 5 goals
Aznou and Armstrong will have breakout seasons
Beto and Chermiti will chip in with 6 goals each
We will end up with a +5 goal difference
Player of the the season will be KDH
We will reach the semis of one of the cups.

I listened to that too, Ajay. I wouldn’t worry about them - they clearly didn’t bother to do their homework on Everton, it was lazy, lazy commentary. Barry Glendenning is a prick, and the other guy couldn’t even remember McNeil’s name.
Jonathan Liew was correct about our bad habit of signing players from the Manchester clubs, though.

ESPN writers' consensus has us 15th.

It's a tough league. we finished above spurs and Man U, not sure that's nailed on this. To go higher, we've got to catch palace Fulham Forest, Bournemouth, again, by no means are we automatically doing that.

I think we put together a run last season which flattered us a bit, if we finish same this season I'd take that.

I think you do catch the sentiment of many with those answers Michael.

I like your forecast of 7th. No reason we can't push or have the ambition to do so. And take the cups seriously.

I also agree. Keep Armstrong. He needs blooding ing in at Everton and in the Premier League.

Pointless to judge before the window closes.

Not necessarily in order, but these are the brackets I think.

The immediate priority is being best of the rest. 9th or 10th for me and have some green shoots for further progression on a sustainable basis - with younger players at the core.

Top:- Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa, Spurs, United

Middle:- everton, forest, brentford, fulham, palace, west ham, wolves, brighton, bournemouth

bottom:- leeds, sunderland burnley

Not relevant to the topic, but wanted to share anyway... our old student Nathan Broadhead just became a media star. Hollywood Wrexham smashed their transfer record by signing him from Ipswich for £10m.

Agree with Robert, it is hard to predict until the window closes but I imagine a poor start will see us around lower mid table and a good start will see us top 10.

We may with a bit of luck be challenging for the Europa conference place, but I see it as a season of consolidation and building rather than a standout season.

If we want to compete with top dogs Barry and Beto are not good enough and we really need to sort out the RW and RB situation quickly.

Ian # 7, I think those are the right broad bands.

In your "big 8" I think Man Utd and Spurs will be much improved (not hard) but Newcastle and especially Villa could have difficult time.

In the middle, I think our challenge this season is to finish at the top of that lot (which could even mean finishing above 1 or 2 of the big 8). Depending on transfer business in the next couple of weeks, we could finish top or bottom of that mini league.

In the bottom, I might stick Wolves in with your 3 relegation candidates because they have been so severely weakened and weren't that good in the first place.

I did also see a thing on Transfermarkt where we were predicted by about 3 of 5 journalists to be the Premier League's surprise package. The other two voted for Spurs and Man Utd.

Robert #10, strongly agree on Wolves -- they haven't signed anybody of significance -- and I'd add in Brentford, who lost their manager and their best player (Mbuemo) and now Wissa has walked out of training to force a move to the Skunks. With Norgaard also gone they're losing 44 goals out of their 66 last season.

Mike

Like you I have Brentford connections so sadly I also think they’ll be relegated. The new manager has never even managed before and the key players have left. Doesn’t look good for our occasional ToffeeWeb contributor Mr Hood. I hope they survive but I just don’t see it happening.
