The only moves confirmed so far on a hugely disappointing Deadline Day are outward, with Youssef Chermiti securing a permanent transfer to Glasgow Rangers, the transfer fee understood to start at £8M, with £2M add-ons.

The 21-year-old, who was behind Beto and Thierno Barry in the pecking order for leading the line, was left out of the squad for the EFL Cup game against Mansfield Town as he looked to confirm his departure from the club after two largely fruitless years.

Everton signed Chermiti from Sporting CP in 2023 for a reported fee of £14M, including add-ons. But Chermiti struggled for game time, and despite being a highly rated prospect by some, injuries hampering his ongoing development and he has struggled for game time, first under Sean Dyche, and then under David Moyes.

Chermiti, brought in as a striker with great promise, made 24 appearances for the Blues, most of them being cameos off the bench,  without scoring a single goal.

"He has got a good chance of going on loan,” the Everton manager said in the pre-match press conference before facing Wolves on Saturday. But the discussions with Rangers eventually homed in on a permanent transfer.

A permanent move away is likely to be seen as beneficial for all concerned at this stage of his career.

Kind of tempers the theory of buying young and at least recouping your money. Although you could argue that losing a third of the value isn't bad when a signing just hasn't shown anything like the ability required.

I'm not sure I'd call the deadline day "hugely disappointing". We did some good business earlier - that's better than scrambling around at the last minute. Yes we still need some reinforcements but it was never likely to happen in one window.

It's always nice to have some deadline day excitement but that's just for entertainment rather than as a sign of the club's progress.

I can't believe we paid the money we did for Chermiti in fairness, he'd barely kicked a ball for Sporting Lisbon's first team.

From all the reports I read based in Lisbon at that time, they were all casting doubt over his ability to do it in England, clearly proven right now.

If we bought him for £14M, and have written down his book value over the 2 years he's been with us, then we cover our remaining book value, I think. We would make a small profit if achieve add ons.

It hasn't been a success from anybody's perspective has it, but Thelwell still believes there's a player in there. I believe we inserted a sell-on clause clawback.

Ernie (1), the 'deadline day' was or at least has so far been 'hugely disappointing'. The window more generally has been a good one. We needed a right back very very badly. We didn't get one. And that for me is 'hugely disappointing'.

Chermiti is another example of a transfer failure. It borders on criminal these days to buy and sell a young fella like him at a loss. Even worse for him, he's heading off to Scotland's laughing-stock.

Not a great record on strikers from super kev thewell. And some wanted to keep him on...

Ian @ 5, it’s not like Moyes has a great record with strikers either is it?

Do we have any more strikers other than Barry and Beto?

Disagree with this.

The lad was injured for most of his time here. I’m sure he didn’t want to be injured

We won’t make a loss on him if he does well and we get a couple of million on any profit he makes.

Criminal is when we sign players like gbamin for 25m plus 65 k a week wages and he leaves on a free

Many many more examples of this kind of of transfer

We have a front line all capable of scoring goals. It’s not the 70s.

Am I right in thinking still possible loans to come, which was always going to be a more likely scenario.

Chermiti was in a relegation squad and got injured as well. During his time with Everton, he was never going to get the ball played to him as he would have at Sporting.

Everton was a bad move for him development wise and Rangers might be a bit better. Someone just seen the money. I would have stayed in Lisbon. Once he gets Artic conditions in Glasgow he will think the same.

I wish him all the best. He should try the deep fried mars bars and chips with daddy’s sauce (broon sauce) Glaswegian haute cuisine

No that’s it for this window Jerome (unless we sign a free agent)

Joe @8,

We have Braiden Graham.

Not that much of a loss. I'd be very surprised if he, or the club met any of the targets that would trigger any of the clauses where the fee reached anywhere near £14m.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't succeed up there. And if he does start performing we'll get another £2m and pretty much break even.

Moyes clearly doesn't rate him, or else it would have been straight loan with a view to integrate him into, or around the first team next summer along with Armstrong.

Braiden Graham is nowhere near senior level. Weird how he keeps getting brought up.

Jake, Graham's name is only getting brought up because we're so woefully short of options with Martin Sherif and Francis Okoronkwo going out on loan.

Looks like Ndiaye will be used if there's injuries to Beto and Barry.

I’m aware of that Gavin. He’s still not anywhere near getting a senior game for at least 3 more years - that’s my point.

Martin Sherif and Francis Okoronkwo will never play Premier League football, so hardly a big loss.

Good decision to sell him and at least get some money back, 24 appearances and no goals!
Needs to play at a lower level of football and then progress from there.

Jake, I've not scanned through all the messages but I'm guessing his name only being brought up for no other reason than that we're short of strikers?

Realistically none of our under 21 players are good enough for the bench, but that's why we should have brought someone in to replace Chermiti then we wouldn't have ridiculous shouts about Braiden Graham.

Surprised we cut bait, rather than sending him out on loan. He obviously didn't play much, but there were glimpses of a player there. Onwards.
