Everton remained within the threshold of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) for the 2023-24 season and have successfully avoided further charges for now.
Despite widespread speculation that Leicester City might be found to have been in breach of PSR, no top-flight club has been charged for the last financial year.
That means that, to date, only Everton and Nottingham Forest have actually had points deducted for being found guilty of breaking spending rules.
Leicester avoided a penalty last season after challenging a Premier League charge on the grounds they were not members of the league at the time, having been relegated to the Championship, and it appears as though they have not been found guilty this year because if the ongoing legal dispute over their previous charge.
However, Everton’s case regarding the accounting of interest charges related to loans for the construction of the new stadium has still not been heard so the threat of a further deduction remains.
