Everton sources have denied a report in The Guardian claiming that American billionaire John Textor was in Liverpool to meet with Farhad Moshiri today.
The Blues’ owner was on Merseyside to attend a board meeting at the Royal Liver Building and visit the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock but, contrary to a report from the tabloid, Textor did not meet with him to discuss his ongoing interest in a takeover of the Club.
Citing their sources, Ed Aarons and Will Unwin claimed in The Guardian that Textor travelled from London to Liverpool as he looks to agree a deal for Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in Everton “in the next few days” but the Liverpool Echo‘s Chris Beesley reports that his newspaper has been told by Club insiders that nobody from the Textor camp was with Moshiri for a scheduled visit that had been in his diary for a while.
The Echo report goes on to suggest that, “despite the 69-year-old’s ongoing attempts to offload his 94.1% stake in the club and his absence from a Premier League fixture at Goodison Park since … 23 October 2021 … Moshiri still watches all the Blues’ matches wherever he is in the world at any given time.
Moshiri’s two attempts to sell his shareholdings, to 777 Partners and The Friedkin Group, both collapsed earlier this year, leaving both him and Everton in limbo. Textor, who still has to offload his 45% stake in Crystal Palace before he can buy more than 9.9% of another Premier League club, is the latest suitor to have expressed an interest in buying the Anglo-Iranian out.
