David Moyes takes charge of his second match since re-joining Everton as manager, this time with the benefit of a full week with his new charges as he plots to end a three-game losing streak when Tottenham come to town.
The Blues, who haven’t tasted victory since the first week of December and who have only scored in two of their last 11 games, lost narrowly to Aston Villa on Wednesday evening so Moyes will be under no illusions as to the size of the job he has on his hands.
He will have to work with the same group of players against Spurs with the Club still assessing potential transfer targets and none of the players who have been out injured recently available for selection, although James Garner is close to making his return.
The midfielder is back in full training after recovering from a back problem but he will be given a run-out for the Under-21s before being considered for first-team action.
Tim Iroegbunam and Youssef Chermiti remain sidelined while Seamus Coleman has a calf issue that means he is ruled out again alongside longer-term absentee, Armando Broja.
Spurs travel at a low ebb themselves, having won just once in the Premier League since late November and slipped out of the top half to 14th place.
Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure to turn the Londoners’ form around but the Australian is insistent he won’t change his preference for open, attacking football and that might give Everton hope of seeing more opportunities after managing to fashion a couple of good chances against Villa in midweek.
The Londoners, who haven’t lost at Goodison since the end of Moyes’s first spell in charge of Everton, will be without Dominic Solanke which makes former Blues favourite Richarlison a likley starter up front now that he is fit again.
