Jarrad Branthwaite is said to be demanding that Everton offer him the same salary package that he had agreed with Manchester United before he signs a new contract at the Club.
The Blues have rejected two low-ball offers for the 22-year-old defender so far this summer but there have been claims in the press that he had accepted personal terms with the Red Devils in the event the two clubs came to an agreement over a fee.
In the interim, Everton have prepared a new contract for Branthwaite to keep him at Goodison Park but Simon Jones of the Daily Mail claims that the player has no intention of signing it unless he is offered the £160,000-a-week wages on offer at Old Trafford.
Branthwaite had a breakthrough season in the Premier League last season and earned his first England cap but remains relatively inexperienced at the top level. He signed an improved deal last October which raised his salary at Everton to a reported £70,000 a week.
That will make Everton reluctant to make him their top earner at a time when the Club is strapped for cash and the ownership situation remains unresolved following the Friedkin Group’s decision to pull out of takeover talks with Farhad Moshiri.
