I’ve just had the very sad news on WhatsApp from a member of his family that Martin Mason has died.
I’ve known Martin for only a short time — about 7 years — but in that time I got to know him quite well and he was a quiet man with strong Everton ties and a fervent desire for us to get back to the good times.
Many people misinterpreted his views as pro-Kenwright — I can assure you he was anything but — as he always asked for facts rather than gossip.
What I can say is he was as blue as anyone I know and it was a pleasure and an education to attend the few away games with him that I did in recent years.
I was so looking forward to taking him to the new stadium at Bram;l;ey-Moore Dock and I know if there’s a heaven (I don’t think he thought so), he’ll be up there cursing that he wasn’t given the chance.
