It has been revealed that, earlier this year, Everton reached an out-of-court settlement with Leeds United for compensation in connection with their first PSR breach for the period ending with the 2021-22 season.
The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Leeds Utd and Everton reached an out-of-court settlement earlier this year. Sources with knowledge of the case said the Leeds hierarchy did not believe their case was strong enough to go to court. Therefore, the two clubs reached an agreement earlier this year,
No details of any financial arrangement have been disclosed, but for context, 17th-place Leeds Utd finished one place and 1 point behind Everton, receiving £2M less in merit payments determined by their final Premier League placings in 2021-22.
Leicester City, Southampton and Nottingham Forest also initially indicated they would consider legal action after the Independent Commission had established that clubs could sue Everton for compensation. Burnley are currently pursuing their compensation claim for around £50M against Everton.
