Danny O'Neill's Funeral
“Nil Satis Nisi Optimum” was the constant refrain today as Danny O'Neill was laid to rest at Allerton.
There was a large contingent of ToffeeWeb contributors, and an even larger caucus of military personnel who clearly held Major O'Neill in the highest regard.
The hearse bearing Danny's coffin was led in by a lone piper playing “Z-Cars”, who then moved on to “Highland Cathedral”.
The service was extremely moving and excellently conducted. There was military ceremony and precision, humour, and repeated references to Danny's love of Everton FC. His son Conor, brother Jamie and pal Jamie spoke so well.
Brent Stephens and Rob Halligan of this parish had collaborated on a superb document containing ToffeeWeb posts by Danny, together with all the tributes sent in by so many people on here. This will now belong to the family.
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. RIP, Major O'Neill.

Peter,
I also attended Danny's service, a great send-of for a remarkable man.
As you stated his son, brother, and friend spoke excellent words about him with a strong Everton theme throughout.
God bless Danny, a true Evertonian.
