David Moyes has praised the performance of Vitalii Mykolenko at Tottenham and the Everton left-back's strong start to the season.

Mykolenko was a standout as Everton played out a goalless draw in North London on Saturday, dealing impressively with Spurs' threat down the right flank.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old's seven tackles won were the most made by any player in a Premier League match so far this season. Mykolenko's determined defending helped Everton extend an unbeaten start and Moyes was keen to praise the Ukrainian post-match.

"I praised him at half-time. I thought he'd done a brilliant job. We got caught out a little bit in the opening five to 10 minutes, inside him a little bit. We mentioned it, but I thought he did a brilliant job against him [Savio] defensively. Very good.

"Then he had Kudus a little bit later on as well. Myko's been playing really well. We just need to make sure we keep him fit."

Mykolenko spoke to the media after the draw at Spurs and said he believes the current Everton squad is the best he has been a part of.

“This group is so good," Mykolenko told Sky Sports, speaking alongside Jarrad Branthwaite.

"A few weeks ago, I said in an interview, this is probably the best group ever I've seen in Everton since I came, so I'm happy to play with them and also I'm happy to see Jarrad back this season and I enjoy to play with him.

"He's supporting always, he's always at the back and I know he will tackle at the back if I lose the ball or lose my winger. So thank you so much for that.

“Hopefully we’ll get into Europe this season. With this small group, it’s hard, but our target is Europe.”

few will acknowledge Mykos ability and performance, we have been spoilt ovrr thr years with our LB position. Baines, Digne are exceptional as LWBs or LB both were however also vulnerable defensively.

Myko is an old school defender and always gives 100% even if he is having a poor game he nerve hides. we dhould look at what his role actually is? defender !!!
