Moyes explains absences

David Moyes has explained the surprise absence of Seamus Coleman from today's line-up as caused by a thigh strain. Jack Rodwell felt his hamstring and was therefore never going to get on from the bench, and likely will miss Wednesday's game as well. Top goalscorer Vellios? "I just decided he looked a little bit below it in training..."

"Seamus Coleman had a thigh strain," said Moyes after the game.

"Jack was injured in the warm-up and I got told just as the game was about to kick off that if I needed him he wouldn't be able to go on because he had felt it in the warm up.

"I would think if he felt it today he won't be available for Wednesday night."

Everton's matchday squad didn't feature Apostolos Vellios either but Moyes confirmed injury wasn't a problem for the Greek.

"Tolis, I just decided he looked a little bit below it in training and young Conor McAleny has been the one looking sharper," added Moyes.
