Everton U17s beat Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School 8-0 to win the Bermuda Triangle Cup at the North Field, National Sports Centre in Bermuda.
The Toffees’ defensive record remained unblemished as they went through the entire tournament without conceding a single goal. “To be able to do that was really good. It is a credit to the team and shows a real collective effort,” coach Scott Phelan told The Royal Gazette.
The young Toffees scored 32 goals in four matches en route to the title. Malik Olayiwola was picked as the MVP of the tournament while his teammate Jonathan Nsangou won the Golden Boot after scoring nine goals, including a hat-trick against Somerset Trojans in his team’s final group B contest.
“We are happy with the week as a whole,” Phelan added.
“We wanted to come for two reasons; one to experience the football obviously and challenge ourselves in a different environment, but also to visit a new country and experience a new culture.
“We go home tomorrow and I think we can be happy that we achieved both objectives.”
